The goal is to close literacy gaps and introduce students to the rigors of college-level English ensuring they are prepared for the academic demands of the upcoming school year and future university coursework.Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Curriculum Design: Develop a 6-week syllabus that balances grammar fundamentals with real-world conversational skills and cultural immersion activities.
Interactive Instruction: Deliver lessons that utilize the Total Physical Response (TPR) method or storytelling to keep students engaged without heavy reliance on textbooks.
Practical Application: Teach Spanish for the Professional World helping students understand how bilingualism can enhance their future college and career prospects.
Classroom Management: Maintain collaborative low-anxiety environment where students feel comfortable practicing a new language and making mistakes.
Assessment: Administer mandated Pre- and Post-Tests to measure linguistic growth and cultural knowledge for federal grant reporting.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in Spanish Spanish Education Romance Languages or a related field.
Fluency: Native or near-native proficiency in speaking reading and writing Spanish.
Experience: 12 years of experience teaching or tutoring Spanish preferably at the secondary (high school) level.
Mission Alignment: Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of first-generation and low-income students many of whom may already be heritage speakers.
Preferred Qualifications
Valid State Teaching Certification in World Languages (Spanish).
Masters degree in Spanish or Foreign Language Education.
Prior experience with TRIO programs (Upward Bound Talent Search etc.).
