Position: Girls Basketball Coach
Location: Shirley Schools
Reports To: Athletic Director / Building Principal
Contract Length:205 Days or equivalent
Position Summary
The Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for planning organizing and directing all aspects of the girls basketball program in alignment with district goals Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) guidelines and Shirley School District expectations. The coach will promote academic success sportsmanship and character development while building a competitive and positive athletic culture.
Special consideration will be given to applicants who hold certification in Gifted and Talented Middle School Social Studies and/or Middle School English.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership
Plan organize and supervise all aspects of the girls basketball program.
Develop practice plans that build fundamental skills teamwork and game strategy.
Establish and communicate clear expectations for student-athletes.
Promote good sportsmanship character and academic accountability.
Maintain compliance with AAA rules and district policies.
- Help coordinate and coach Pee Wee basketball teams
Student Development
Monitor and support the academic progress of all players.
Foster leadership responsibility and positive behavior among student-athletes.
Ensure a safe and structured environment during practices games and travel.
Encourage multi-sport participation when appropriate.
Game and Practice Management
Organize and conduct effective daily practices.
Prepare teams for competition through scouting and game planning.
Supervise athletes at all times during school-sponsored activities.
Coordinate equipment inventory and maintenance.
Communication and Collaboration
Communicate regularly with the Athletic Director principals staff parents and athletes.
Work cooperatively with other coaches and school personnel.
Promote the girls basketball program within the school and community.
Attend required meetings professional development and school functions.
Program Administration
Assist with scheduling transportation coordination and game management.
Maintain accurate records eligibility documentation and required reports.
Support offseason program development and summer activities as approved.
Qualifications
Required
Valid Arkansas Teaching License
Valid Arkansas Coaching Endorsement
Knowledge of basketball fundamentals rules and coaching best practices
Ability to supervise and motivate student-athletes
Strong organizational communication and leadership skills
Ability to pass required background checks
- CDL or ability to obtain upon hire
Preferred (Special Consideration)
Certification in Gifted and Talented
Certification in Middle School Social Studies
Certification in Middle School English
Previous successful coaching experience
Experience working with middle and/or high school students
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand walk run and demonstrate athletic skills.
Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
Ability to travel with team as required.
Terms of Employment
Salary and contract length will be established by the Shirley School District salary schedule and board approval.
