Job Summary

Des Moines Public Schools is looking for and accepting applications from dynamic leaders in Teaching & Technology for our Director of Digital Literacy and Innovation position.

The salary range shared below represents the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. Candidates offered employment will be compensated based on skills work experience and education. This position will also qualify for a 14% Tax Sheltered Annuity (TSA) in addition to the base salary.

Des Moines Public Schools offers up to $6000 towards relocation costs.

Job Title: Director of Digital Literacy and Innovation

Job Summary:

The Director of Digital Literacy and Innovation provides leadership for all facets of instructional technology and digital literacy planning aligned with district and board goals including the strategic close collaboration with the Office of Academics the Director of Digital Literacy and Innovation develops and implements the vision and strategy for digital learning support. This position oversees digital learning curriculum development and the library services program ensuring tight integration between Office of Academics initiatives and projects and Technology Services. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment and current knowledge as well as future-focused vision for leveraging technology and innovation to align with the districts model.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership and vision for the districts instructional technology digital learning and innovation functions building capacity to support student achievement teacher efficacy and board priorities.
  2. Develop and lead the districts digital learning and digital literacy strategy and vision; collaborate with department supervisors school leaders and central office partners to coordinate the implementation. Align instructional technology resources platforms and services with short and long-term district strategic and instructional goals.
  3. Establish monitor and report measurable outcomes and indicators of success related to digital learning digital literacy and innovation initiatives.
  4. Develop and maintain district policies related to instructional technology digital learning and digital literacy in accordance with state and local laws.
  5. Collaborate with district leaders and the Office of Academics to create a shared vision for how instructional technology and digital learning support strategic goals.
  6. Manage staffing of assigned functions including recruitment onboarding supervision professional growth evaluation and performance accountability while building effective partnerships with matrixed teams and district collaborators.
  7. Align instructional technology resources platforms and services with short and long-term district strategic and instructional goals. Design and continuously improve systems infrastructure and coordinated professional learning including technology and library supported instructional practices that enable effective digital learning and digital literacy implementation.
  8. Oversee the development and implementation of district innovation initiatives including Signature School models through the design piloting evaluation and scaling of innovative learning approaches.
  9. Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and practices including artificial intelligence real time language translation and immersive learning tools that may impact instruction and student support.
  10. Lead the workplace strategies that support staff engagement productivity and well-being through effective technology use.
  11. Coordinate monitoring reporting and evaluation efforts related to the district strategic and technology governance committees.
  12. Engage in professional development to remain current in digital learning instructional technology leadership and innovative practices.
  13. Collaborate with district partners to support efficient use of energy resources as new instructional technology capabilities are introduced.
  14. Maintain professional learning and growth through professional organizations seminars course work and collaboration.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Masters degree in Educational Technology Library & Media Science Management Information Systems (MIS) Educational Leadership or related field.
  • Work Experience: Ten or more years of experience in K-12 Education or similar large scale academic environments with application of technology in teaching learning curriculum and/or library.
  • Licensure or Certification: N/A

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated successful written and oral communication and presentation techniques including ability to communicate the positive impact and value of the districts technology and digital learning functions.
  2. Ability to build and maintain relationships with district leaders and the Office of Academics to assess needs and align school-based roles including digital learning teachers and library and digital learning associates that advance digital literacy and instructional innovation.
  3. Knowledge of how to establish and support systems for collecting analyzing integrating and reporting instructional and learning data to inform data-driven decision-making.
  4. Knowledge of and ability to manage the digital learning and instructional technology components of the IT budget; maximize funding sources ensure fiscal accountability and pursue grants and alternative funding.
  5. Ability to and record of making ethical responsible and legally compliant technology use decisions including modeling professional standards and ensuring districtwide awareness.
  6. Demonstrated strategic understanding of district systems and ability to provide leadership on how technology curriculum and instruction intersect to support teaching and learning.
  7. Knowledge of and success in effectively managing instructional technology staff resources both internal and outsourced through the use of quantitative and qualitative data to identify strengths and growth areas.
  8. Ability to prioritize tasks anddetermine proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  9. Possess excellent organizational skills attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy.
  10. Ability to manage time with a proven ability to meet deadlines and achieve high performance goals
  11. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
