Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our Acute Cardiac/Stroke unit! This is a full time night shift in Suffolk VA.
Hours: 7p to 7a with rotating weekends
About the Unit
The Acute Cardiac/Stroke Unit at Sentara Obici Hospital provides care for patients with cardiac conditions including heart failure cardiac rhythm disturbances newly implanted permanent pacemakers and defibrillators post- coronary interventions post-ablation myocardial infarctions. 2 South also cares for pre/post catheterization acute stroke and post procedural neuro cases. This 25-bed unit sees a ratio of 1:6 with assistance of Patient Care Techs with a ratio of 1:8 on average. The unit cares for patients with acuity higher than a typical medical-surgical unit. 2 South Acute Cardiac is also preparing for a transition to a Cardiac PCU step-down before years end making it an exciting opportunity for nurses seeking growth in a dynamic high-acuity setting. Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care support the admissions and discharge process and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients physical mental and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing.
Education:
HS High School Grad or Equivalent
One of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT) completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School Emergency Services to include EMR EMS EMT AEMT and Paramedic or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN LPN RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.
Certifications/Licensure:
AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
Experience:
One year of health care experience is preferred.
