ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ability to:
- Collaborate in the development articulation implementation and stewardship of a K-12 Spanish language and culture middle school program.
- Teach in a Two-Way Dual Language instructional program that meets the students individual academic and linguistic needs and make modifications when necessary.
- Teach assigned content in Spanish with a high degree of skill and to integrate the teaching of content area vocabulary and to teach students to use language correctly through the content.
- Work cooperatively with students and their families who are culturally racially linguistically and economically diverse.
- Work effectively and cooperatively with teachers community administrators and support staff
- Use Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and/or Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to plan and provide effective differentiated instruction using research-based practices
- Engage in ongoing professional development as part of a Professional learning Community (PLC) in which issues related to implementing effective content instruction are considered current research on effective practice is read and discussed student work and data are reviewed to inform instruction and engaging lessons are planned
- Engage in instructional coaching; willingness to be coached
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly productive and safe environment for learning
- Use instructional technology in delivery of curriculum and reporting student progress
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement(s)
- Bilingual and bi-literate in Spanish and English. Advanced fluency in Spanish required (both written and spoken); native Spanish speaker preferred.
- Multicultural Educator with cultural competency and ability to work comfortably in a diverse community
- Successfully complete Washington State Patrol background check. Employee is responsible for cost of background check.
- Must have regular consistent attendance.
- Must be willing to uphold District Policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Familiarity with or willingness to acquire knowledge of language immersion models and curriculum.
- Experience working with at-risk student population preferred.
- Experience working with economically diverse or challenged populations preferred.
- Preferred training and/or experience in:
- Workshop Model of Instruction
- Integrated instruction: curriculum mapping
- Assessment Driven Instruction
- Developmentally appropriate practices
- Extended travel or residence in Spanish speaking countries and familiarity with the linguistic and cultural diversity of the Spanish speaking world
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES RELATED TO CULTURAL COMPETENCE AND EQUITY:
- Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
- Nurtures a positive school environment that celebrates respects and values diversity where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
- Initiates activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence of staff informing and expanding teaching practices within classrooms.
- Models instructional leadership and demonstrates a strong commitment to equitable outcomes for all students.
- Ability to recognize each person as a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage.
- The ability and desire to establish positive relationships with persons regardless of race gender physical limitation sexual orientation or religious belief with an active commitment to equal opportunity for all persons.
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and interact successfully with diverse instructional support services and administrative staff including perceiving the needs and concerns of others; assisting others in resolving conflicts; motivating others; and designing programs to assist others in meeting organizational goals.
