Key Responsibility
To support the effective delivery of science lessons by preparing equipment materials and laboratory spaces ensuring practical activities can be carried out safely and efficiently.
Role Purpose
The Science Technician provides practical and technical support to the Science Department ensuring laboratories equipment and resources are prepared and maintained to support high-quality teaching and learning.
The role ensures that laboratory environments are safe organised and fully equipped for practical lessons while supporting teachers and students during experiments and investigations.
The post holder will contribute positively to the ethos aims and wider work of the school.
Science Technician Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Preparation
Prepare and set up equipment materials and chemicals for science lessons and practical experiments.
Ensure laboratories are organised and ready for use before each lesson.
Clean and clear equipment after practical sessions.
Assist teachers in preparing demonstrations and practical activities.
Equipment and Resource Management
Maintain science equipment and ensure all apparatus is safe and in good working order.
Organise and manage laboratory resources and storage areas.
Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering laboratory supplies and chemicals.
Maintain inventory records for equipment and materials.
Health and Safety
Ensure all practical activities comply with health and safety regulations.
Safely store handle and dispose of chemicals and hazardous materials.
Maintain risk assessments and safety documentation where required.
Ensure laboratories meet safety standards at all times.
Practical Lesson Support
Provide technical assistance to teaching staff during practical lessons where required.
Support students during practical experiments to ensure safe working practices.
Prepare specialised equipment for biology chemistry and physics experiments.
Laboratory Maintenance
Maintain cleanliness and organisation within science laboratories and preparation rooms.
Carry out routine maintenance of equipment and apparatus.
Assist with setting up laboratory displays and teaching resources.
Additional Responsibilities
Attend staff training (INSET) and relevant meetings where required.
Support the Science Department during busy periods or special science events.
Assist with science clubs demonstrations or open evenings where appropriate.
Carry out additional duties as directed by the Headteacher School Business Manager or Head of Science.

Experience
Experience working in a school or laboratory environment (desirable)
Experience preparing materials or equipment for practical activities
Experience working safely with chemicals or laboratory equipment (desirable)

Strong attention to detail and safety procedures
