DescriptionThe School of Music at the University of South Florida is searching for a piano tuner and technician. This is a full time continuing staff position within the School of Music and the College of Design Art and Performance. The technician reports directly to the Director of the School of Music.
The USF School of Music is an All-Steinway School with an inventory of 80 pianos (approximately 35 uprights and 45 grands). All instruments are either Steinway or Boston and the majority were built between 2010-2012.

The college is home to the universitys arts district Contemporary Art Museum Graphic studio and the Florida Center for Community Design. The college embraces opportunities to embed new and existing arts programming in the rapidly growing regional communities and serves as an integral engagement.
Responsibilities- Tune regulate voice maintain and repair pianos on a scheduled and as-needed basis to ensure optimal performance quality.
- Prepare concert and performance instruments for faculty student guest artist and ensemble performances.
- Perform preventive maintenance and seasonal conditioning of instruments to extend service life and preserve institutional assets.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues including action regulation pedals keys dampers hammers strings and related components.
- Respond to emergency service requests such as broken strings sticking keys or mechanical failures.
- Maintain accurate records of tuning schedules maintenance activities repairs and instrument conditions.
- Coordinate with faculty staff and administrators to prioritize service needs and accommodate instructional and performance schedules.
- Recommend repairs replacement parts or external services when advanced restoration or specialty work is required.
- Work evenings weekends or outside normal business hours as needed to support performances and special events.
- Ensure safe handling transport and placement of instruments in performance rehearsal and instructional spaces.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience as a piano technician.
- Membership in a recognized professional organization such as the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience tuning maintaining and repairing high-quality concert and institutional instruments.
- Completion of or commitment to complete manufacturer-specific or recognized technical training (e.g. Steinway technical training) within a designated timeframe.
