About the Program
The Virginia Residential Governors School for Math Science and Technology is an intensive four-week residential program for 160 of the most academically talented high school students from across Virginia. Our mission is to create a safe engaging and academically enriching environment that supports students intellectual and personal growth.
This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in teaching counseling education STEM leadership or student affairs providing hands-on experience that will strengthen any resume.
Position Overview
As a Summer Resident Assistant (RA) you will be responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive community within the residence halls planning engaging activities and outings and ensuring students well-being throughout the program. You will live on campus in Westover Hall and play a crucial role in mentorship supervision and leadership for some of Virginias most gifted students.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervision & Safety: Conduct curfew checks enforce program policies and ensure student well-being.
- Programming & Engagement: Organize and lead social recreational and academic activities to foster community.
- Mentorship & Conflict Resolution: Provide guidance mediate disputes and support students in a structured yet fun environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with fellow RAs and staff to create a seamless residential experience.

QualificationsQualifications

- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must have a valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
- Must demonstrate maturity leadership and a commitment to student success.
- Must be comfortable leading group discussions and activities both in and out of the classroom.
- Must have a strong interest in working with gifted and talented students.
- Prior leadership experience is required (RA experience is a plus but not mandatory).
Must be available to reside on campus full-time for the duration of the program.
