Job Summary

The opportunity : Senior Legal and Regulatory Expert - Fixed Term Contract 10 months

We are currently seeking a senior Legal and Regulatory Compliance professional on a fixed contract to join our Risk & Regulatory Compliance Team in order to support important development and enhancement projects of the Bank.

What you will do:

  • Assist the Country Head of Regulatory Affairs & PBRS Head of Regulatory Compliance in carrying out the mandate of the Regulatory Compliance function with your senior legal and compliance expertise in regard to regulatory implementation of specific projects including Client classification and cross-border set-up enhancements establishment of collaboration frameworks in the HSBC Group implementation of CRDVI and Berne agreement review of discretionary advisory and execution only operating framework
  • In the above context conduct regulatory advisory activity with a focus on proper functioning of financial markets product compliance and conduct outcomes; provide stewardship to the First Line of Defence on Regulatory Compliance risks local and foreign legal and regulatory requirements & developments with regards to the ongoing and prospective business activities transformation initiatives or other projects
  • Contribute significantly to the visibility of the Regulatory Compliance function by regular interactions with key stakeholders other departments and functions active engagement and participation through various forums and by contributing to training broadcasts and other communication initiatives on important Regulatory Compliance topics

In this role you will also:

  • Engage and undertake advisory oversight & regulatory developments related activities in particular / possibly in relation to
  • Cross Border and licencing regulatory requirements in regard to activity of clients
  • Support definition of relevant internal control framework and controls in relation to activities developed by the Bank
  • Support timely implementation of remediation to Compliance Assurance Internal and External Auditor & FINMA feedbacks and findings; Review of HSBC and local Group Policies / Procedures / Governance
  • Oversee and advise on the implementation of regulatory developments by the First Line of Defence in the above areas
  • Ensure the Staff are adequately informed and advised on all regulatory compliance risks and their Conduct duties towards Clients related regulatory developments PBRSs and HSBC Groups internal rules
  • Ensure that the First Line of Defence performs a proper review and establishes adequate controls over the regulatory compliance risks
  • Escalate for PBRS Managements awareness all material Regulatory Compliance issues and/or significant breaches on a timely basis
  • Contribute with appropriate input to regular PBRS Regulatory Compliance reporting and management information and support First Line of Defences reporting as required
  • Assist Country Head of Regulatory Affairs & PBRS Head of Regulatory Compliance and/or PBRS Chief Compliance Officer with other tasks as required
  • Ensure that PBRS Regulatory Compliance team is kept up to date as required
  • Dynamic contribution in any local and/or HSBC Group led project implementation business initiative mitigating measures governance process or other initiatives as required by Country Head of Regulatory Affairs & PBRS Head of Regulatory Compliance

You should apply if you have:a

  • Bachelor/Master Degree in law / university degree
  • Long lasting activity linked to the Swiss Financial market and excellent knowledge of Swiss laws and regulations FINMA Circulars regulatory matters and initiatives affecting the industry typically applicable foreign law aspects etc.
  • Solid and proven practical operational experience gained in the legal & compliance financial/private banking industryDetailed understanding of Private Banking business significant understanding of financial products services and market place
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong operational embedding capacities and investigative skills
  • Service-oriented attitude with ability to provide practical advice and solutions to meet business needs
  • Able to work alone and by yourself while also being an excellent team player and a front-runner
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • Fluency in English both written and spoken. Proficiency in French and/or German is an advantage
  • Computer literacy required with skills in all MS software (Word PowerPoint and Excel) and other applications
  • Due to immigration restrictions in Switzerland we will only be able to consider applications from Swiss or EU citizens or from candidates holding a valid Swiss work permit
