This is a full-time TERM position (anticipatory permanent) working 75 hours bi-weekly to March 31 2027.

Temporary assignments may be considered.

The Mineral Resources Branch regulates exploration and mining activity. Working as a member of Major Mines Licensing the Mining Technologist works to build a competitive and sustainable mining industry in Yukon while protecting Yukon government from environmental liabilities of mine reclamation and closure. A Mining Technologist is responsible for fostering and maintaining professional relationships with other branches and departments First Nations and proponents.

Reporting to the Manager of Major Mines Licensing the Mining Technologist conducts comprehensive technical and regulatory reviews of mining applications and plans for projects consults with First Nations and develops policies and guidelines to improve the quartz mining regulatory regime in Yukon.

Essential Qualifications

  • Diploma in engineering mining technology geological sciences environmental sustainability or a related field;
  • Experience analyzing researching and preparing technical reviews and/or reports;
  • Experience working with legislation regulations and/or policies;
  • Experience working with First Nation governments non-governmental organizations and the public would be considered an asset; and
  • Working knowledge of the Yukon mining industry would be considered an asset.

Candidates who have education training and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
