Job Summary
The Massage Therapist provides modified massage therapy and guided meditation to all appropriate patients as assigned. This includes family and professional caregivers and hospital personnel referred by massage program coordinator and/or other clinical team members/ colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Participates in orientation and step-protocol training during probationary period.
- Provides support and comfort to patients family members and caregivers through therapeutic massage relaxation and self-care techniques.
Develops treatment plans and modifications based on the symptoms presented by patients.
Obtains medical clearance from MD or RN before performing therapeutic session and communicates with staff and team regarding referrals.
Documents treatment notes in electronic medical record.
Provides opportunities to teach about massage therapy techniques and its therapeutic benefits and symptom management through hands-on work and didactic education.
- Assists with regular staff wellness events and chair massage sessions.
- Maintains current knowledge of field through continued education and self-study.
- Performs other related duties.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Massage Therapy School program
- One year of practice/experience
- Name: Massage Therapy License NY State Board of Education
- Proof of Liability Insurance if credentialed as a voluntary appointment
Preferred:
- Experience providing massage therapy in a clinical setting (paid volunteer or internship)
- Advanced training in one or more of the following:
- Oncology massage
- Hospital-based massage therapy
- Manual lymph drainage
