The Environmental Services (EVS) Specialist aids in maintaining a high-quality standard of housekeeping. This includes performing cleaning functions in assigned areas while following assigned schedules and specific methods to provide patients visitors and staff with a sanitary orderly and safe patient care environment. EVS Specialists aid in the prevention of cross contamination controlling bacteria odor and sustaining acceptable aseptic conditions. They may assist with moves recycling delivery of supplies and the removal of trash and biohazard waste. The EVS Specialist may use industrial cleaning equipment.Job Description
Establishes and maintains clean sanitary and safe environment in assigned work areas by following departmental policies and procedures
Proper disposal of biohazards according to EPA and OSHA codes and regulations. Handle the disposal of environmental Contaminants such as: batteries thermometers (mercury) and needles. Keep biohazard food and loading area safe and clean of debris.
Maintains equipment clean carts buckets floor machines other equipment and supply closets to give the hospital a professional appearance.
Must comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids chemical disinfectants radiation and other hazardous substances.
Follows hospital/departmental policy on hand hygiene.
Completes and maintains all carpet and hard surface flooring in accordance with departmental procedures.
Observes safety precautions when pushing equipment. Reports faulty mechanical structural or electrical problem in accordance with safety policy creating an environment of safety.
Utilizes wet floor signs to prevent slippage by patients employees and visitors in accordance with safety policy. Performs duties in compliance with policy and safety practices.
Converses with patients and visitors using scripting to establish dialogue and extend every possible courtesy. Demonstrates high standards of conduct in the work environment to make Jefferson the choice for patients and employees.
Assist with the moving of furniture equipment supplies recycling and set-ups by request of the supervisor and/or staff.
May use industrial cleaning equipment such as an extractor bovac buffer roto advance walk behind auto-scrubber and/or burnisher for floor refinishing and maintenance.
Respond to pages or phone calls in a timely fashion.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
High School Graduate or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
6 months to 1 year of experience in housekeeping or cleaning in a healthcare environment preferred but not required.
