The Preschool Mandarin and Music/Performing Arts Teacher inspires young learners through engaging developmentally appropriate language music and performing arts alignment with the GESS mission to provide holistic values-based education within an inclusive and intercultural community the teacher nurtures creativity confidence collaboration and a lifelong love of learning in children aged 18 months to 6 years old. This role contributes to the social emotional cognitive and physical development of each child while fostering curiosity respect and global mindedness.
This role ensures a cohesive and thriving language and music culture within the school community;
To ensure that the Language and Creative Arts programmes positively develop students learning understanding skills knowledge and appreciation of the Arts and Mandarin as second language.
To support in ensuring that Language and Creative Arts at GESS have an engaging rigorous enriching programme that is consistent with the defined mission and values of GESS.

Key Accountabilities

    • Plan and deliver high-quality inquiry-based Mandarin music and performing arts lessons aligned with the GESS Preschool curriculum framework.
    • Design engaging experiences in Mandarin singing movement rhythm drama storytelling and creative expression that support early childhood development.
    • Foster creativity imagination and expression in a safe and inclusive learning environment.
    • Integrate intercultural elements reflecting the diverse and international GESS community.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs abilities and backgrounds (cultural and linguistic) of young learners.
    • Work closely with the homeroom teachers Mandarin teachers and the Creative Arts team to support teaching and learning pedagogy and contribute to the development of a climate of collaboration and community.
    • Maintain the climate of trust and transparent communication.
    • Attend weekly meetings as needed.
    • Holistic Qualities:
    • Promote confidence collaboration resilience and empathy through language learning and performing arts activities.
    • Support childrens social-emotional growth through stories group performances role-play and ensemble work.
    • Encourage student agency curiosity and joyful participation in the arts as well as Mandarin acquisition
    • Ensure student learning through these systems is commensurate with GESS values.
    • The GESS Creative Arts Programme through these Values and Qualities aims:
    • To develop students understanding skills knowledge and appreciation of Mandarin as second language music and the creative arts.
    • To advance the education of young people within a global mindset and encourage cultural diversity through the performance and study of the creative arts.
    • To provide opportunities for students in the programme to further their individual and ensemble creativity through the activity programme supported by accompanying performances workshops and festivals.
    • To encourage students to engage in meaningful and active learning opportunities.
    • To facilitate communication among creative arts teachers Mandarin teachers students and parents.
    • To provide enrichment for students in a deeper and more profound way through its connection to the wider creative arts community and immersion in Mandarin language
    • To celebrate achievement and success.

Knowledge and Experience

    • Appropriate experience and teaching qualification.
    • Articulate and effective written and oral communication in English and Mandarin as the classes with be conducted in these languages.
    • Must have previous teaching experience in a Preschool setting: knowledge of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and the Reggio Emilia philosophy is desirable.
    • Demonstrated experience in delivering hands-on inquiry-led and play-based learning within an early childhood setting.
    • Ability to integrate music and movement meaningfully into the preschool curriculum to support cognitive linguistic and social-emotional development.
    • Skilled in leading age-appropriate musical experiences including singing rhythm work movement and the use of simple instruments.
    • Knowledgeable in designing a curriculum for second language learning.
    • Strong classroom management skills grounded in positive guidance and respectful relationships.
