Job Title: Logistics & Distribution Analyst
Reports to: Assistant Logistics & Distribution Manager
Location: Billings MT
Position Summary
The Logistics & Distribution Analyst supports enterprise and site-level logistics performance management across Marmon Fastener Company (MFC) locations. This role assists the Assistant Manager of Logistics and Distribution with logistics reporting analytics and KPI tracking for transportation distribution inventory accuracy and third-party logistics (3PL) partners. The Analyst compiles and analyzes data to help evaluate cost service and risk tradeoffs; develops insights and recommendations to support improvements in cost-to-serve customer delivery performance and working capital; and collaborates cross-functionally to support process improvements and standardized controls.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics Analytics KPI Governance and Reporting
- Support the development and maintenance of logistics KPIs and dashboards (freight spend OTIF/on-time delivery claims inventory accuracy turns split shipments expedite trends).
- Assist in maintaining standardized KPI definitions data sources and measurement methods across MFC sites and 3PL partners.
- Conduct trend variance and root-cause analysis to help identify performance drivers cost leakage and service risks; summarize findings for leadership review.
- Prepare business case analyses and scenario modeling (e.g. consolidation routing changes mode shifts) to support leadership decision-making.
Transportation Performance and Cost-to-Serve Optimization
- Analyze shipment profiles lane performance accessorial charges and expedite trends; provide insights to support cost control and service improvements.
- Assist in evaluating routing mode selection carrier performance and consolidation opportunities within established policies.
- Monitor transportation cost and service performance; prepare forecasting support and variance explanations for review.
- Support analysis of packaging shipping methods and order release practices to reduce split shipments damages and accessorial costs.
3PL Performance Governance and Continuous Improvement
- Support preparation and maintenance of 3PL scorecards; compile performance data and assist with structured performance review materials.
- Investigate inventory variances service failures billing discrepancies and process gaps; document findings and support corrective action tracking.
- Assist in validating 3PL billing accuracy and shipment documentation; escalate discrepancies as appropriate.
Inventory Accuracy Analytics and Controls
- Perform inventory reconciliation analysis between internal ERP systems and 3PL reporting; investigate and document variances for review.
- Analyze inventory positioning and transfer activity to support improved fulfillment and working capital management.
- Assist in documenting and maintaining SOPs data controls and standard work related to logistics reporting reconciliation and exception management.
Cross-Functional Leadership and Implementation
- Support logistics improvement initiatives by providing analytical input tracking metrics and monitoring progress against targets.
- Collaborate with planning production customer service warehousing finance and external partners to gather data and support implementation efforts.
- Prepare KPI summaries performance updates and analytical presentations for leadership review.
Compliance Risk and Controls
- Assist in maintaining documentation and audit support for domestic and international shipment compliance.
- Identify recurring service or compliance risks through data analysis and escalate findings to leadership with supporting documentation.
Role Boundaries
This role is primarily responsible for routine shipment scheduling daily tracking/expediting order entry or preparation of standard shipping documentation. Execution is performed by warehouse teams customer service and/or 3PL partners. The Analyst provides governance reporting analysis and improvement leadership and may support exception research as needed.
Scope and Impact
- Supports logistics performance reporting and analysis across Marmon Fastener Company (MFC) locations/warehouses and 3PL sites.
- Provides analytical input that informs decisions impacting freight spend and cost-to-serve for the assigned scope.
- Contributes insights that support improvements in customer outcomes including OTIF/on-time delivery order completeness and claims performance.
- Assists in identifying opportunities to improve working-capital outcomes through inventory accuracy and inventory flow analysis.
Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years experience in logistics Analysis supply chain or related field.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel Word Outlook)
- Experience working with ERP data and logistics systems (TMS/WMS/3PL portals) with the ability to reconcile and validate multi-source data.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present insights and recommendations to leadership.
Preferred
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Business Analytics or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Power BI or Tableau experience strongly preferred.
- SQL experience strongly preferred.
