Job Summary

Position Summary

NYU Shanghai Social Science invites applications for an adjunct faculty position Fall 2026 and/or Spring 2027. The successful candidate will join an active and collegial group of political scientists and contribute to the departments established strengths in international political economy international organization and Chinese foreign affairs. We seek candidates whose research and professional expertise complement these areas and directly inform undergraduate teaching in comparative and international politics.

Teaching responsibilities will be course-specific coverage for the following undergraduate courses:

  • CapitalismSocialismCommunism
  • Introduction to Comparative Politics
  • Politics in China
  • Introduction to International Politics
  • Introduction to Political Theory

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach these courses effectively drawing on research or applied expertise in areas such as comparative politics international relations political theory political economy or related fields that speak to comparative political and economic institutions and Chinas domestic politics.

Qualifications

PhD in Political Science International Relations or a closely related field by the start of the appointment;
Evidence of research policy or professional expertise relevant to comparative politics international political economy political theory and/or Chinese politics;
Demonstrated or strong potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching;
Ability to engage constructively with faculty and contribute to the intellectual life of the department.

This is a part-time position based in Shanghai with a maximum of 24 hours per week. Candidates must be Chinese citizens (including residents of Hong Kong Macau and Taiwan) or non-Chinese citizens with Chinese green card or work permits (subject to the relevant immigration regulations).
