The Project Controls Intern supports the Project Controls team in the setup maintenance and analysis of project cost control
systems. This role is designed as a developmental position for students interested in a career in Project Controls providing
hands-on exposure to cost forecasting KPI analysis reporting and project performance management.
The intern will work closely with Project Managers Project Controls Specialists and Project Accountants to learn how financial
and operational project data is transformed into actionable insights that support project decision-making across the project
lifecycle.
The internship concludes with a capstone project presentation to executive leadership.
This position is designed to help develop candidates who may be considered for future full-time Project Controls roles.
Essential Functions:
Financial Controls & Forecasting Support
Assist Project Controls Specialists with monthly cost forecasting activities under supervision
Support preparation of Estimate-at-Completion (EAC) and Estimate-to-Complete (ETC) inputs
Help validate cost data accuracy and identify variances or anomalies
Assist in aligning estimate data with project cost management systems (Vista by Viewpoint)
Support ad-hoc project and management requests related to cost and performance analysis
Data Analysis & Excel Development
Perform data cleanup validation and organization across multiple data sources
Maintain and update existing Excel-based project controls tools
Build basic Excel templates calculations and models to support reporting and forecasting
Develop proficiency with pivot tables lookups and structured data analysis
Gain exposure to Power BI dashboards and visual reporting tools
Reporting & Communication
Assist with preparation of project performance materials in response to project team requests
Support creation of charts tables and narratives explaining cost performance and trends
Attend project meetings to understand how cost data supports decision-making
Learn to communicate project status trends and risks clearly and professionally
Change Management & Document Control
Assist with tracking potential and executed change orders
Support maintenance of logs backup documentation and supporting records
Support document control processes and organization of project files
Learning & Development
Learn established Project Controls standards processes and best practices
Receive mentorship from Project Controls Specialists and Managers
Participate in continuous improvement discussions and provide feedback on tools and processes
Develop a foundational understanding of how scope quantities labor rates and changes impact project cost forecasts

Currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in a quantitative or construction-related field (e.g. Construction Science
Business Finance Economics Engineering or similar)
Junior or Senior academic standing
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Interest in project controls cost management and data analysis
Preferred Qualifications
GPA of 3.5 or higher
Prior internship or co-op experience in construction engineering accounting or project-based environments
Intermediate Excel skills or strong interest in developing them
Exposure to Power BI or data visualization tools
Foundational understanding of cost control principle
