The University of Hawaii (UH) Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH) invites qualified applicants for one (1) tenure track full-time 11-month faculty position. The position is expected to begin approximately May 2026 or as mutually acceptable. The faculty must meet the requirements of partnering organizations that serve as clinical practice sites for doctor of nursing practice (DNP) students in the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner specialty and interprofessional education.

We are seeking a professional transformative psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner who will nurture the growth of our department. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for our patients and advancing the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner specialty in the DNP to address the needs of our community. SONDH faculty work in partnership with affiliating agencies and UH health science programs.

The faculty will be required to travel to clinical sites including the Clinical Learning Education & Management Clinic (affiliated academic faculty practice at University Health Partners of Hawaii) as needed in addition to reporting to UH Manoa.   1. Supervises clinical rotations in the psych- mental health specialty for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program.
  2. Teaches assigned clinical seminars didactic courses linked with corresponding clinical experiences case studies post-conference and laboratory courses. Specific priority of need is psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner.
  3. Develops clinical services and training programs to enhance the education of advanced practice nursing students with a focus on psych-mental health.
  4. Participates in curriculum development activities for the psych-mental health specialty.
  5. Participates in supervising and facilitating advanced practicum DNP student scholarly projects and simulation student activities.
  6. Facilitates interdisciplinary education in primary care practice settings.
  7. Engages in research/scholarly projects consistent with the Department/Schools goals. This is including but not limited to leading and/or participating in research evidence-based practice quality improvement program evaluation and teaching/education-focused activities.
  8. Conducts education scholarship/research and service to strengthen the innovative delivery of behavioral healthcare across the state.
  9. Delivers clinical care that fosters and sustains a high-quality clinical learning environment.
  10. May serve as the lead for faculty practice to collaboratively develop and execute initiatives for an academic health clinic focused on psych-mental health if assigned.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree or PhD degree with appropriate clinical board certification. The degree must be awarded by a college or university of recognized standing.
  • Current (or be eligible for) unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in Hawaii (must have Hawaii license by the appointment date).
  • National board certification as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner;
  • Current (or be eligible for) unrestricted Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license to practice in Hawaii (must have Hawaii license by the appointment date);
  • One (1) year full-time clinical nursing work experience in the area of advanced practice nursing specialty;
  • Engaged in professional practice on a unit with a similar patient population and level of patient acuity where they will be assigned for the purpose of supervising advanced practice nursing students;
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and acquaintance with assessment of student learning outcomes the requirements of governmental and accrediting agencies and specific and effective assessment practices;
  • Demonstrated professionalism in meeting interacting and conferring with others;
  • Demonstrated competency in interdisciplinary team work and team science;
  • Demonstrated competency in quality improvement projects or initiatives.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience supervising nursing advanced practicum students.
  • Coursework in curriculum development and health sciences education.
  • Demonstrated competency in Evidence Based Practice and DNP Scholarly projects.
