Summary
The Vice President Engineering (Region) provides executive leadership for all engineering functions within the assigned Region including Track Bridges/Structures and Communications & Signals (C&S). This role ensures safe reliable and compliant railroad infrastructure by leading regional maintenance programs engineering standards execution capital planning workforce development and regulatory stewardship. Works closely with Operations Safety Mechanical and Public Projects/Utilities to deliver highâquality infrastructure and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all engineering disciplines within the Region including Track Bridges and C&S.
- Implement and uphold engineering standards consistent with company & AREMA recommended practices and applicable federal regulations.
- Ensure the Region fully complies with FRA requirements for track signals train control and bridge programs.
- Represent the Region in FRA RSAC activities and participate in ASLRRA committees.
- Lead execution of all Regionâmanaged inspection maintenance and engineering programs.
- Develop the Regions annual and multiâyear capital plan prioritizing safety compliance and asset condition.
- Ensure regional engineering design and construction activities meet company standards and FRA rules.
- Support Public Projects/Utilities by leading required regional engineering construction coordination and field execution.
- Develop and mentor regional engineering leaders fostering a strong technical and safety culture.
- Ensure engineering employees are trained and qualified.
- Partner with Operations Mechanical Transportation Risk/Safety and corporate Engineering to ensure cohesive infrastructure planning and execution.
- Represent the Region with local state and federal agencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Civil Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (PE preferred).
- 15 years of progressive railroad engineering leadership across Track Bridges and/or Signals & Train Control.
- Strong knowledge of FRA Partsand AREMA practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiâdiscipline engineering teams.
- Willing to travel 50%.
- Ability to communicate effectively with regions and senior management teams employees customers railroads regulatory agency officials and the general public.
