About the role
Tenure: Remunerated appointment (three-year term)
Location: Remote open to applicants in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand
The RANZCP Section of Leadership and Management (SLAM) is seeking a Community Member with lived or living experience as someone who has engaged with psychiatric services or as a carer or supporter of someone who has engaged with psychiatric services.
The role of SLAM is to support members with an interest in leadership and management in psychiatry.
The Section aims to
- promote the objectives of the College relating to leadership and management
- foster the understanding of clinical leadership and governance for psychiatrists
- facilitate the advancement of training and research in leadership and management
- promote quality improvement in the provision of psychiatric services.
The Community Member will share their lived expertise from a consumer and/or carer perspective to help shape the work and priorities of the group.
Community Members are full members of the group. While they are not expected to represent all consumers or carers their lived expertise is valued in informing discussions and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and actively contribute to scheduled meetings
- Provide lived-experience input from a consumer and/or carer perspective to inform the groups work and discussions.
- Review meeting papers and provide written input between meetings as required
- Work collaboratively with committee members the Chair and RANZCP staff
- Adhere to RANZCP policies including confidentiality and conflict of interest requirements

- Lived or living experience as someone who has engaged with psychiatric services or as a carer or supporter of someone who has engaged with psychiatric services
- An interest in contributing to improvements in psychiatry training policy and practice
- Ability to reflect on and communicate lived-experience insights in a way that informs professional discussions and supports improvements to the groups work
- Availability to attend approximately four meetings per year (3 virtual meetings usually 12 hours; and 1 face-to-face meeting/ hybrid meeting usually 3-6 hours)
- Alignment with RANZCP values and commitment to confidentiality
- Independence from RANZCP employment (current employees are not eligible to apply)
- Previous experience in committees advisory roles or relevant lived-experience advocacy is welcome but not required
