Upfit Technician
Department: Service / Commercial Sales
Reports To: Service Manager or Commercial Sales Manager
Position Summary
The Upfit Technician is responsible for installing modifying and customizing vehiclesprimarily trucks and commercial unitsaccording to customer specifications and manufacturer standards. This role supports commercial and retail sales by preparing vehicles with specialized equipment accessories and work-ready components prior to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Install aftermarket accessories and commercial equipment including lift kits bed liners toolboxes ladder racks lighting packages hitches running boards grille guards and shelving systems
- Perform electrical installations such as auxiliary lighting inverters wiring harnesses and upfitter switches
- Coordinate with commercial sales team to review upfit specifications and timelines
- Inspect vehicles for quality control before delivery to ensure proper installation and safety compliance
- Maintain detailed documentation of installed equipment and labor time
- Work with vendors and third-party upfitters when necessary
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines and warranty requirements
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Adhere to all dealership safety policies and OSHA standards
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 13 years of automotive mechanical or fabrication experience preferred
- Knowledge of electrical systems wiring and vehicle modification
- Experience with commercial truck equipment installation preferred
- Valid drivers license with clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment
