Overview
This part-time position facilitates Community Education and Recruitment programs designed by the research team to raise clinical research awareness and increase participation in Alzheimers Clinical Trials Consortium (ACTC) studies. Primarily works out in the community with the target populations. Works closely with the researchers community advisory board and ministerial alliance to implement community education outreach engagement and study recruitment.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and facilitate community events such as health fairs and community forums as a representative of the program.
- Conduct community presentations and talks at local venues (i.e. senior centers health fairs civic events and churches.
- Assist with the development and dissemination of outreach/informational materials and media messages and other resources needed to conduct outreach efforts.
- Convey the purposes and services of the Community Based Participatory Research program to the target population and the impact that this program would have to increase clinical research awareness and participation in ACTC studies among members of the Southeastern Virginia community.
- Assist the researchers and ministerial alliance to plan community luncheons to be held at churches and other venues that will reach the target audience.
- Assist with documenting and monitoring the study outcomes: (1) number of community members who attend outreach activities (2) number of community members who attend Alzheimers Clinical Trials Consortium (ACTC) informational sessions (3) number of community members screened and recruited for ACTC studies.
- Conduct initial prescreening for ACTC studies. This may include collection of personal health information and phlebotomy.
- Work collaboratively and effectively within the team and effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School plus three (3) years of experience in health/social sciences or education. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from researchers and study participants/caregivers. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate orally and in writing. Having a track record of successful outreach community organizing and facilitation skills. Have access to reliable transportation (public and/or private) and be able to travel short-distances frequently. Experience in collection of personal health information (PHI) and phlebotomy experience is preferred but not required.
