Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Undergraduate Business Career Development within the Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills provides strategic leadership for a comprehensive career development unit dedicated to supporting business students in making informed post-graduate career decisions. The position advances career readiness and exploration by delivering high-impact resources programs and experiential opportunities. This role is responsible for enhancing organizing and implementing initiatives that support the career exploration and professional development of undergraduate Business students and recent Business alumni.

The successful candidate will demonstrate proven collaborative ability a strong commitment to diversity equity and inclusion and exceptional leadership interpersonal organizational written and critical-thinking skills. This position reports to the Director of the Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs within the School of Business.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage the School of Business Career Development Office within the Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills overseeing staff programming data management and faculty and employer engagement across all campuses.
  • Supervise hire onboard train and evaluate full-time part-time temporary and student staff; delegate responsibilities make operational decisions and provide ongoing guidance and support.
  • Direct team workflows to effectively respond to evolving student needs and changes in employer and industry landscapes.
  • Collaborate with the School of Business Undergraduate Programs Office and the Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills to develop implement and maintain policies and procedures related to programming staffing and professional development.
  • Apply change management strategies and process improvement initiatives to guide operations of the undergraduate career development team across all UConn campuses. Partner with the School of Business Undergraduate Programs Office and Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills on strategic planning forecasting and initiatives supporting organizational change.
  • Identify programming needs establish assessment protocols and implement data-informed improvements based on outcomes and feedback.
  • Collect analyze and deliver regular reports on data outcomes program assessments and contribute to survey and outcomes reporting to the School of Business leadership including Executive Directors and Deans to ensure alignment and sustained institutional support; also report first destination and other relevant data to external organizations such as AACSB Bloomberg and Poets & Quants.
  • Research industry and employment trends to enhance student career readiness; facilitate practice interviews to prepare students for recruitment processes.
  • Serve as a liaison to UConn departments within and outside the School of Business including the Undergraduate Programs Office department heads Deans Office and Alumni Office to support student development and post-graduate placement.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with external partners including employers alumni startups and public private and nonprofit organizations to expand experiential learning internship and placement opportunities aligned with the business schools undergraduate majors.
  • Support the career development of undergraduate business students through program development individual counseling and coaching classroom and student group presentations training content creation and ongoing career readiness initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree.
  • Five years of professional experience.
  • Experience supervising professional staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years of professional experience in a university/college business human resources recruitment or training environment.
  • Proven experience working with diverse student groups programs or constituents.
  • Three years of experience supervising professional staff.
  • Three years of leadership experience overseeing a department program or project.
  • Demonstrated skills in generating and analyzing data.
  • Demonstrated experience with online meeting tools and broad technological skills.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students clients or constituents in a selective and high-achieving academic business or nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of career counseling techniques jobtrendsand/or career development skills.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time permanent position and may include occasional nights and weekends. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining external partner relationships to support internships experiential learning opportunities and other program initiatives and must have dependable transportation to occasionally travel in support of these activities.
