Bethune-Cookman University Job Title: Adjunct English Instructor Reporting Structure: Chairperson of the Department of English World Languages and Cultural Studies Division: College of Arts and Humanities
JOB SUMMARY: This is a temporary part-time teaching position in the Department of English World Languages and Cultural Studies at BethuneCookman University. The successful candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills. This position will require the successful candidate to teach first-year composition courses primarily but the successful candidate may be assigned to teach upper-division writing and literature courses if he or she is qualified to teach higher-level courses in our curriculum. We seek candidates with a commitment and demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with students as well as the potential to contribute effectively to a faculty team dedicated to creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. Therefore the adjunct instructor is expected to be committed to an inclusive working environment and participate as an active member of the departments collaborative endeavors with a commitment to quality instruction in assigned courses.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Excellence in teaching and a commitment to scholarship.
- Day or evening in-person classes may be assigned
- Online teaching experience is preferred but is not required.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Qualifications include a masters or terminal degree in English rhetoric writing literature or a related field with at least 18 graduate hours in English or writing.
PREFERRED SKILLS EXPERIENCE EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Applicants should also have at least one year of experience teaching writing at a college or university and have experience using or integrating learning management system tools such as Canvas. Experience in teaching historically disadvantaged populations and first-generation college students is desired.
ENVIRONMENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Working environment is a normal business office setting.
- Demands normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
- Typically the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work. However there may be some walking standing bending or carrying of light items.
- Must be mobile throughout the campus.
