- Incentive Bonus: 17.5% 26.25%

About the Facility
A hospital in Northeast San Antonio is seeking an experienced Director of Emergency Services to lead a high-performing Emergency Department. The hospital is recognized for advanced specialty programs stroke and cardiac care excellence trauma services (Level III) and a strong commitment to patient safety and quality outcomes.
With ongoing expansion plans (additional inpatient capacity projected in 2027) the organization continues to invest in clinical innovation employee engagement and patient-centered care. The Emergency Department includes approximately 50 beds and manages an average daily volume of 180 patients with a high-acuity EMS population.
Position Summary
The Director of Emergency Services provides strategic clinical and operational leadership for the Emergency Department. This leader ensures the delivery of high-quality patient-centered care while maintaining fiscal responsibility regulatory compliance and workforce engagement.
The Director fosters a culture of accountability collaboration and continuous improvement while aligning departmental operations with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Clinical Excellence
- Promote evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and clinical outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory accreditation and legal standards.
- Oversee patient throughput flow coordination and capacity management.
- Direct nursing practice standards and departmental policies.
- Monitor quality metrics and drive performance improvement initiatives.
Service & Patient Experience
- Champion initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction and experience.
- Implement strategies based on patient feedback and benchmarking data.
- Partner with leadership and subject matter experts to elevate service excellence.
People & Leadership
- Lead mentor and develop managers and clinical staff.
- Foster a positive culture with strong employee engagement (currently in the 70% range).
- Ensure appropriate staffing models to support patient acuity and volume.
- Build and retain a high-performing team aligned with the organizations mission and values.
Growth & Strategic Development
- Collaborate with executive leadership and physicians to expand services.
- Identify opportunities to enhance capacity service lines and community outreach.
- Support hospital expansion initiatives and surge strategy implementation.
Financial & Operational Management
- Develop and manage departmental budgets including labor and supply costs.
- Monitor productivity premium pay utilization and operational efficiency.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality of care.
Reporting Structure
- Reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
- Oversees 2 Emergency Department Managers
- Leads a multidisciplinary team within a collaborative provider culture
- EMR: Meditech
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing (Required)
- Masters Degree (Preferred)
Licensure
- Active Texas RN License or Compact RN License
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of recent Director-level Emergency Department leadership experience (Required)
- A highly accomplished Emergency Department Manager may be considered
- Minimum 3 years of recent Emergency Department clinical experience (Required)
- Demonstrated success with metrics quality outcomes and operational performance
