Job Summary

University of Iowa Health Care - Medical Center North Liberty department of Engineering is seeking an Area Mechanic who hasinitial responsibility for operation of all buildings and equipment in assignedareaand performing skilled tasks in the inspection maintenance and repair of mechanical systems facility maintenance and operation.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Applies all necessary safety precautions in working with electrical steam or mechanical equipment.

  • Performs inspections of electrical mechanical steam and plumbing equipment in assigned areas on a periodic basis in order to determine the degree of operating efficiency and to locate and alleviate potential malfunctions.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions on electrical equipment appliances light fixtures plumbing fixtures heating airconditioningand ventilating equipment controls in assigned area.

  • Performs and reports on specific written preventive maintenance procedures (such as lubrication cleaning changing filtersmaking adjustments and replacing parts) on electrical mechanical plumbing and steam equipment in assignedarea.

  • Checks accomplishment of shop work orders and returns them to theappropriate officeafter work is completed.

  • Inspects and reports building problems involving carpentry painting roof masonry and plastering in assigned area in order to determine corrective methods.

  • Establishes andmaintainseffective communications with personnellocatedin assigned area and within his/her own and other shops relative to building maintenance and occupant comfort.

  • Maintains operating inventory of necessary spare repair parts filtersbeltsand other supplies.

  • Trainsshopapprentices replacements and other personnel.

Schedule:100%
Hourly: $23.33 to commensurate
Hours:Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm with rotating weekends and holidays

Minimum Eligibility Requirement:

  • Must possess a basic knowledge of plumbing electricity maintenance of steam and mechanical equipment.

  • Must have four years of work experience in the listed crafts including apprenticeship or technical training.
