Since its inception in 1905 the Carnegie Mellon Department of Chemical Engineering has been on the leading edge of research and innovation in chemical engineering. Today this is more true than ever. The Chan research group at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher with expertise in protein bioconjugation and polymer processing.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies to tune the physical and chemical properties of proteins through chemical modification
  • Develop methods to compatibilized proteins with biopolymers for composites
  • Characterize mechanical thermal and structural properties of materials
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary collaborators including synthetic and computational biologists
  • Mentor and collaborate with graduate students on research projects
  • Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts research proposals and progress reports

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry Chemical Engineering Materials Science & Engineering or a related field with a focus on polymers
  • Experience in polymer synthesis
  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills with a track record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
