Department: I-KAN Schools - Alternative Learning Opportunities Program (ALOP)

Job Summary

The ALOP Program Coordinator is responsible for the leadership administration and compliance of the Alternative Learning Opportunities Program within the region. This role focuses on providing additional intervention options for students in grades 412 who are at risk of academic failure by coordinating a broader range of academic behavioral and social-emotional interventions. The Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between the I-KAN Regional Office of Education and partnering school districts. The Coordinator is responsible for initiating and scaling new educational programming for the region.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Education Social Work or a related field preferred.
  • Licensure: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) *preferred not required
  • Experience: Minimum of 35 years of experience in alternative education or working with at-risk youth.
    • Demonstrated experience in grant management and budget oversight.
    • Strong understanding of Article 13B of the Illinois School Code.
  • Skills: Exceptional communication organizational skills and the ability to foster relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Reports To: Regional Superintendent of Schools / Assistant Regional Superintendent

Performance Responsibilities

Program Administration and Compliance

  • Application and Reporting: Lead the annual submission of the ALOP application for program approval and continuation to ISBE.
  • Fiscal Management: Prepare and monitor the program budget including expenditure reports and funding allocation plans. Ensure coordination of local state and federal funds for efficient service delivery.
  • Data Oversight: Manage student data collection for evaluation of program effectiveness including monitoring educational outcomes and student progress toward graduation.
  • Subcontracting and IGAs: Draft and maintain Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) and contracts with participating districts and service providers.

Student Support and Intervention

  • Student Success Plans (SSP): Oversee the development and semi-annual review of individualized Student Success Plans for every enrolled student.
  • Admission and Referral: Assist in managing the referral process ensuring that admission criteria are nondiscriminatory and based on documented prior interventions.
  • Transition Management: Assist in developing procedures for transitioning students back to the regular school program including post-exit monitoring for at least two semesters.
  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Ensure the integration of trauma-informed approaches and SEL mentoring to remove barriers to learning.
  • District Collaboration: Partner with local school district administrators to embed ALOP services within school buildings.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation for travel between school districts within Kankakee and Iroquois counties.
  • Standard office environment with frequent visits to school sites and community agencies.

Salary Range: $40000 to $60000 (dependent upon experience)
