Job Summary
The Senior Test Engineer leads the development and documentation of test plans to validate hardware firmware and software designs and implementations. This role works closely with design engineers architects and product managers to determine test requirements execute test plans report findings and support root cause analysis. The engineer also contributes to the creation modification and management of automated test systems and tools while supporting analysis and recreation of complex customer issues.
Key Responsibilities
Execute validation test plans to assess hardware firmware and software functionality performance compatibility and compliance; document and communicate results.
Develop maintain and improve automated test solutions using software tools off the shelf test equipment and custom equipment.
Drive process improvements and optimization in test procedures.
Create detailed test plans from product and feature requirements in collaboration with design engineers and product managers.
Prepare test reports and findings in a clear and concise manner.
Analyze test results and collaborate with engineering teams to debug embedded designs and systems
Support customer issue troubleshooting and recreation.
Skills & Technical Expertise
- Proficiency with standard test equipment (oscilloscopes DMM data loggers spectrum analyzers etc.)
- Hands on experience with basic hardware tools and equipment including low voltage and line voltage wiring.
- Experience using command line and engineering grade tools (software test tools automated test scripts data loggers).
- Excellent ability to interpret hardware/firmware specifications and product feature descriptions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical topics clearly to technical and non technical audiences.
- Effective multitasking and ability to manage shifting priorities.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
- Proven track record in fast paced engineering environments with cross functional coordination.
- Experience in lab environments (power analyzers EMI/SURGE testing burn in thermal chambers).
- Preferred scripting/programming experience (Python LabVIEW C JavaScript).
- Experience with Selenium Appium Postman/Newman or API/testing frameworks.
Education Requirements
- Minimum: Associates Degree or Technical Degree (or equivalent)
- Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering Electronics Computer Engineering or related field
Experience Requirements
- Minimum: 3-5 years in hardware firmware or software validation/testing
- Preferred: 6 years experience in hardware validation software/firmware QA or similar roles
Preferred Industries:- Lighting background LED drivers and controls (indoor/outdoor lighting controls)
