Scope of Project

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Database Administrator Consultant. This is a new position.

SCDMV supports approximately 300 SQL Server databases and is currently migrating those databases from SQL Server 2019 to SQL Server 2022. In addition DMV is implementing high availability solutions across several supported systems and expanding the use of Reporting Services and Analysis Services in support systems such as SharePoint MS System Center Team Foundation Server and others.

SCDMV is also addressing increasing security concerns around these assets.

This position will supplement the current SQL DBA team with production support activities including OS updates security updates backup and recovery and other operational tasks. The role requires after-hours and weekend support as needed.

The consultant will also support the Oracle DBA team as required create reports using SSRS and Power BI and utilize ERwin for managing logical and physical data models data dictionaries and model documentation.

This is expected to be a long-term ongoing assignment. Onsite presence is required; therefore regional candidates (SC GA NC) will be given preferred priority. Candidates must be local to South Carolina or willing to commute to Blythewood/Columbia SC five days per week.

Responsibilities:

SQL Server

Set up and maintain data replication and mirroring
Configure maintenance automation
Perform backup and recovery operations
Troubleshoot SQL Server performance issues including after-hours and weekends
Monitor SQL Server environments
Install and configure new SQL Server instances
Develop and support data warehouses and cubes using SQL Server Analysis Services
Migrate SQL Server databases to SQL Server 2022
Develop reports using SSRS
Support SSIS packages
Establish database design development and management standards
Consult with developers regarding database design
Implement and support third-party databases for vendor-supplied applications

Oracle (Desired)

Analyze develop and support stored procedures and SQL
Familiarity with Oracle 19 database operations
Experience with Oracle Grid Control

Business Intelligence

Design develop and manage dashboards and reports using BI tools

Data Modeling

Design develop and maintain logical and physical data models using ERwin Data Modeler
Ensure database designs support scalability integrity and performance requirements
Collaborate with data architects developers and business analysts to translate business requirements into data models
Perform modeling activities in Oracle and MS SQL environments

Required/Preferred Skills:

Required:

5 years of experience with SQL Server 2019 and 2022
5 years of experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
5 years of experience with SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
5 years of experience with SQL Reports Designer
5 years of experience with BI tools and design
5 years of experience as an SQL Database Administrator
2 years of experience working with State Government Agencies
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Data Science or a closely related field

Preferred:

Data Domain Boost (DD Boost) for backup and restore operations
Experience with Oracle 19 database operations
Experience with Oracle Grid Control
Experience with ERwin Data Modeler
