Postdoc in pharmacoepidemiology Long-term safety and benefits of ADHD medication in children and youth

A 2-year position as postdoc is vacant within the pharmacoepidemiology group atClinical Pharmacology Pharmacy and Environmental Medicine (CPPEM)Department of Public HealthFaculty of Health SciencesUniversity of Southern Denmark. The position is to be filled from June 1 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Research tasks

The postdoc will be embedded in a large Danish Norwegian research project investigating the long-term safety and beneficial effects of ADHD medication in children adolescents and young adults as well geographical variation in access to support and diagnostic pathways.

Core research tasks include planning conducting and publishing epidemiological studies using large-scale observational data primarily register-based with a focus on effects of ADHD medication in both children and young adults.

Depending on the candidates scientific profile and interests the position may also involve primary data collection such as extraction of medical chart data using language models and surveys of stakeholders within child and adolescent mental health services.

Research environment

The postdoc position is hosted within the pharmacoepidemiology research group at Clinical Pharmacology Pharmacy and Environmental Medicine SDU. The candidate will join an interdisciplinary and engaged research environment and supervisor team with expertise in pharmacoepidemiology paediatrics and child and adolescent combine clinical perspectives and data sources with advanced population-based research using nationwide health data to address key questions about utilization patterns safety and benefits of ADHD medications in youth. Our group is collaborative international and dedicated to high scientific standards while maintaining an open and informal atmosphere. In daily work the postdoc will refer to medical doctor PhD Helene Kildegaard and Professor Anton Pottegård but he/she will also be expected to contribute to the whole research unit whose research areas span from pharmacoepidemiology to clinical studies and cell-based basic pharmacology and environmental medicine.

Qualifications

The applicant must hold a PhD degree or have obtained one at the expected start date in epidemiology biostatistics pharmacoepidemiology or a related discipline. The applicant must have strong methodological competencies in population-based epidemiology including programming skills and documented experience with large-scale health data and advanced epidemiological and statistical methods. Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Experience with the Nordic nationwide registers is considered an advantage but is not required.
