Role Overview
In the past 10 years have you had personal experience(s) in behavioral/mental health juvenile justice child welfare or drug & alcohol and can positively and appropriately self-disclose regarding that experience If so you may have found your next job as a Wraparound/WISe Youth Peer! We are seeking mature individuals who have similar life experiences to the youth served in Wraparound/WISe to be a peer mentor positive role model and advocate and support for these individuals. Your role will involve working as part of a team assisting youth in achieving their goals connecting with resources and helping youth to have a voice and be accountable for their own lives and future.
WISe (Wraparound with Intensive Services) is a team-based approach to building support systems around youth and families. The youth peer will work collaboratively with the Wraparound Facilitator Parent Partner Clinician and other team members to ensure the process remains youth and family driven strength-based and solution focused.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interact with youth client as a peer by sharing common experiences and modeling resiliency and recovery.
- Provide one-on-one support to clients navigating youth-serving systems (mental health special education juvenile justice child welfare DDA drug/alcohol treatment)
- Function as a role model for team members in supporting youth voice and choice in team meetings.
- Assist youth clients in discovering and creating community and natural supports.
- Maintain empathetic yet professional relationships with families served.
- Develop collaborative relationships with therapists teachers probation officers social workers and other system representatives connected to families.
- Provide services on a community outreach basis in a youths home school or community with a demonstrated ability to operate autonomously while also collaborating with a team.
What Were Looking For:
- High School Diploma or GED and continuing education in Mental Health field such as the Peer-to-Peer Counselor Program.
- Associate or bachelors Degree in a Behavioral Health Program preferred.
- Certified Peer Counselor training or ability to attend and obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
