We are seeking a dynamic highly motivated Family Home Visitor who demonstrates our values of compassion accountability responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients families and each other.
The role of Family Home Visitor is to promote the healthy growth and development of children by supporting families in their homes in person and/or via virtual technology during various family stages (prenatal school entry). As part of the Healthy Babies Healthy Children program the Family Home Visitor together with a Public Health Nurse (PHN) works with families to build on their strengths develop their parenting skills and help them connect with community resources.
This position is a unionized permanent full-time position. The rate of pay is $21.20 per hour. This position is for 40 hours per week.
Schedule - Monday to Friday 8:30 am -4:30 pm with occasional 9:00 am - 5:00 pm as needed and option to complete virtual visits from home in inclement weather.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mobile work in person with families in the City of Hamilton on a frequent regular clients residences (homes shelters agencies etc.)
- Provide reinforcement of health teaching done by the Public Health Nurse/Service Coordinator.
- Share role model and involve parent/caregiver in positive and practical age-appropriate parenting strategies with their children to increase an understanding of normal growth and development.
- Support families to remove barriers in accessing community resources by accompanying them to community resources as appropriate.
- Communicate regularly with the PHN FHV team and FHV Manager to discuss and review families progress and FHVs focus with the family.
- Support prenatal families to build relationship with their unborn child prepare for infants arrival and encourage healthy lifestyle and prenatal care and
- Report to appropriate child welfare agency if child abuse and/or neglect is suspected as per Wesley and HBHC policies and procedures.
- Participate in regular reflective practice supervision with FHV Manager attend and actively participate in team meetings in-services and other training sessions.
- Maintain accurate client records and confidentiality as per Wesley and HBHC policies and procedures.
- Meet funder and agency target requirements
What you will bring:
- Post-Secondary education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Development
- English or French proficiency is preferred. Fluency in another language would also be an asset.
- Experience working in an environment requiring a strong knowledge of growth and development in infants and children 0-6 years of age with families and encouraging positive parenting skills with young parents families of diverse backgrounds and cultures and LGBTQ families.
- Excellent organizational skills strong verbal and written communication abilities and a track record of resolving conflicts with a high level of professionalism.
- Ability to apply computer skills to perform tasks accurately effectively and efficiently: knowledge and experience in working with Office 365 (Word Excel) Outlook Express virtual technology platforms and navigating internet search engines.
- Certification in food handling non-violent crisis intervention and First Aid/CPR is preferred
- Previous home visiting experiences with families with children 0-6 years of age including multicultural and vulnerable population will be given preferences.
- Readily available Vehicle and a valid drivers license are required
