Database Performance Engineer DB2 & Cloud (AWS RDS Redshift Athena)
Role Overview:
We are seeking a Database Performance Engineer with 810 years of experience in database engineering and performance tuning across enterprise systems. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SQL optimization query plan analysis and hybrid mainframe-cloud database environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform SQL query optimization and analyze execution plans using tools such as EXPLAIN Query Store AWRASH DB2 Visual Explain.
- Work hands-on with Mainframe data technologies: DB2 for z/OS IMS DB VSAM. Knowledge of JCL/COBOL for data access patterns is a plus.
- Design implement and tune AWS database services: RDS (MySQL PostgreSQL SQL Server Oracle) Redshift Athena Glue S3. Optimize tuning parameters WLM keys partitions compression and throughput.
- Improve high-throughput workloads (1000 TPS) reduce query latency and stabilize performance during peak hours.
- Expertise in index design statistics management partitioning and locking/concurrency issues (deadlocks isolation levels).
- Provide guidance on data modeling strategies (OLTP vs OLAP) and normalization/denormalization trade-offs for performance.
- Utilize Linux and mainframe utilities for performance diagnostics. Automate processes with Python or Shell scripting.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and communicate complex database performance findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
