Position Summary

Walsh University is seeking a highly motivated self-directed and flexible individual who is enthusiastic about contributing to a private faithfully Catholic institution of higher learning and serving the common good. The Division of Student Experience at Walsh University has been structured to reflect the Universitys commitment to student development support and retention. The roles listed below play an integral role in actualizing this commitment.

The Student Experience Graduate Assistants are responsible for aiding the Student Experience team with responsibilities in Residence Life and Campus Activities. Graduate Assistants aid in creating and maintaining a positive student-centered community across campus. This includes the establishment of programs and services which foster respect dignity and Christian virtue among students in unison with the ethics and spirit of the Universitys mission and vision.

If selected successful candidates will have an opportunity to interview for the following open positions within Student Experience:

  • Residence Life (Residential Community Leader)- 1 position available
  • Residence Life (Residential Engagement Leader 3 positions available

Each role will have residential community responsibilities assist with orientation and aid with programs and services within Student Experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide support to the Division of Student Experience in a variety of ways to create and maintain a positive student centered community across campus.

To be eligible to receive a graduate assistantship award a student must satisfy all the requirements listed below. Individual departments may impose more stringent requirements at their discretion. All GAs must satisfy the requirements listed below in order to receive and maintain their assistantship:

  • Be accepted and remain in good standing in an approved Walsh University graduate program.
  • Maintain a course load of at least six (6) credit hours each semester continuing progress toward degree in the graduate program. Requests to register below six (6)credit hours must be approved by direct supervisor in consultation with Student Affairs administration.
  • Perform graduate assistantship duties satisfactorily as defined by the Walsh University Professional Staff Performance Evaluation. Furthermore the GA must maintain appropriate standards of academic and professional conduct.
  • Be available to work the minimum of (20) twenty hours per week associated with the assistantship during regular business hours (8:00 am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday). Additionally office hours should be dispersed evenly throughout the week. GA office hour schedules will need to be approved by their direct supervisor.
  • As the responsibilities of the position are significant GAs must understand the need to maintain consistent flexibility in schedule and time commitments as the nature of the position is not traditional and often necessitates nights and weekend commitments to meet the needs of the department (programming training campus emergencies etc.). Additionally it may be necessary to work during holiday University breaks and throughout University closings.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Abilities)

Must demonstrate an understanding the Walsh University Statement of Faith and a commitment to support the Mission Vision Values and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University in accordance with Ex Corde Ecclesiae and the Catholic intellectual tradition. Must also possess the following:

Education and Academic Status:

Bachelors Degree required with appropriate related experience and admittance into a Graduate Program at the University.

Experience Skills and Abilities:

Relevant experience working in student affairs or student services; experience in conflict and dispute resolution/mediation; Experience as a supervisor or peer leader; Strong interpersonal skills positive attitude organizational skills and sense of humor. Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students staff and faculty. Other skills or abilities may be required based on the department.

Working Conditions

Hours of employment: will require working flexible or irregular hours during any part of the day or week including early mornings evenings overnight hours weekends and holidays; additional work hours may be required with little notice. Stress from work-related situations such as those involving challenging important urgent time-sensitive or multiple matters.
