KBR is hiring a Social Media Lead to support the Communications and Outreach team at the US Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center in Sioux Falls SD.

Requirements: Education: BS in Communications Journalism or Marketing

Experience: 7-10 years relevant experience

Three years of continuous residency in the U.S. for issuance of a Government Security credential

Essential Job Functions

  • Create and schedule content across social platforms develop editorial calendars and maintain a consistent mission-aligned voice and visual style.
  • Monitor platforms and conversations to identify engagement opportunities.
  • Stay current on EROS Center and science project developments to pitch fresh ideas and translate complex topics into accessible compelling content.
  • Report on performance (reach engagement click-throughs) and provide insights to optimize content.
  • Adapt writing styles across technical journalistic and creative formats to meet audience expectations.
  • Produce project e-newsletters.
  • Collaborate closely with the supervisor and teammates to identify priorities and content needs.
  • Ensure compliance with plain-language best practices and USGS digital standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Journalistic copywriting and an eye for visual storytelling (images graphics short-form video).
  • Experience curating packaging and managing content across platforms (e.g. X Facebook Instagram LinkedIn YouTube) to meet audience expectations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media tools; experience with analytics is preferred.
  • An appreciation for Earth sciences and familiarity with Landsat or remote sensing is a plus.

The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation for facility access and user accounts.
