Job Summary

We are seeking a Safety Health & Environmental Officer for a permanent vacancy based in Stutterheim Eastern Cape.

Duties & Responsibilities

Applicants are required to meet the following criteria:

SAMTRAC Qualification or equivalent & Occupational Health and Safety Act Training Certificate
Firefighting and emergency procedures training
Min 3 Years related experience in ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act in a forestry related industry
First aid/medical response training & computer literacy on MS Office
Strong administrative skills and valid drivers license
Well-organized and meticulous with the ability to work under pressure
Able to liaise comfortably within all levels of the company
Able to meet deadlines and good verbal and written communication in business English
Ability to communicate in Xhosa would be advantageous
Good report-writing & problem-solving skills
Thorough knowledge of H&S systems and legal requirements with proven implementation ability

The successful applicant would be responsible for but not limited to:

Provide support and guidance to Managers on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) matters within the Group
Investigate incidents using root cause analysis tools and compile incident reports
Implement monitor and enforce compliance to OHS legislation
Conducting OHS audits
Review and update safety management systems and related training programs
Monitor and report on all incidents and accidents
Provide first responder assistance with medical emergencies (during and after hours)
Compile and present Weekly Monthly and Quarterly reports
Participate in workplace committees and forums
Assist and participate in fire-fighting operations
Manage emergency preparedness of sites
IOD (Injury on Duty) mitigation and management
Contractor management
Site environmental management and compliance
Maintain risk registers.
