We are seeking a Safety Health & Environmental Officer for a permanent vacancy based in Stutterheim Eastern Cape.
Duties & Responsibilities
Applicants are required to meet the following criteria:
- SAMTRAC Qualification or equivalent & Occupational Health and Safety Act Training Certificate
- Firefighting and emergency procedures training
- Min 3 Years related experience in ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act in a forestry related industry
- First aid/medical response training & computer literacy on MS Office
- Strong administrative skills and valid drivers license
- Well-organized and meticulous with the ability to work under pressure
- Able to liaise comfortably within all levels of the company
- Able to meet deadlines and good verbal and written communication in business English
- Ability to communicate in Xhosa would be advantageous
- Good report-writing & problem-solving skills
- Thorough knowledge of H&S systems and legal requirements with proven implementation ability
The successful applicant would be responsible for but not limited to:
- Provide support and guidance to Managers on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) matters within the Group
- Investigate incidents using root cause analysis tools and compile incident reports
- Implement monitor and enforce compliance to OHS legislation
- Conducting OHS audits
- Review and update safety management systems and related training programs
- Monitor and report on all incidents and accidents
- Provide first responder assistance with medical emergencies (during and after hours)
- Compile and present Weekly Monthly and Quarterly reports
- Participate in workplace committees and forums
- Assist and participate in fire-fighting operations
- Manage emergency preparedness of sites
- IOD (Injury on Duty) mitigation and management
- Contractor management
- Site environmental management and compliance
- Maintain risk registers.
Salary: Market related
