The Advocacy & Government Relations internship will take on a variety of projects unique to STCUs government and public affairs work housed within the Community Impact and Advocacy department at STCU. Responsibilities will include managing analyzing and reporting on bills and policy issues that impact credit union members employees and the community for Washington Idaho Oregon and at the federal level. Duties include: preparing a comprehensive weekly report summarizing legislative activity relevant to the credit union researching and summarizing material on emerging and existing legislative issues as it pertains to credit unions education and other related matters; assisting in coordination of legislative travel and appointments; and supporting CI&A team on special projects and tasks.
This position can be fully remote hybrid or in-person (Liberty Lake WA). Some periodic travel to an STCU location (STCU Headquarters in Liberty Lake) may be required.
Qualifications :
Required:
- Candidate needs to be an enrolled college student for the entirety of the internship and seeking credits through Spring 2027 (Masters/law students OK).
- Currently working on a degree in Political Science Government Relations Public Administration Economics or Law Business Administration or similar. Or an intended career path in politics or government relations.
- Versatile to work in a small team as a contributor and self-starter
- Knowledge in public policy the legislative process and advocacy related topics
- Analytical and research skills ability to take complex legislative and policy information and synthesize it into high level executive summaries
- Ability to turn around projects quickly and work on tight deadlines
- Organized and good at helping others get organized
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent verbal organizational and writing skills.
- Professional work ethic and independent time management skills
- Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Outlook Word Excel Teams and Forms.
- Reliable transportation needed.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in public policy or government work or internships (i.e.: Congressional internship Legislature Internship campaign experience etc.)
Additional Information:
Duration: Spring 2026 Spring 2027 with the possibility of extension
Hours per Week: Average of 15-20 hours per week Monday Friday. Opportunity for more hours over the summer.
