Were searching for a Teacher Librarian/Media Specialist willing to play a central role in shaping the vision and future of library services for our Primary and Middle School. This is a unique opportunity to create vibrant engaging and inclusive learning spaces that inspire a love of reading curiosity and exploration in our students.

Working collaboratively with colleagues the Teacher Librarian/Media Specialist will support the PYP and MYP curriculum provide tailored resources and guidance and foster professional learning across the school community. Successful candidates will bring a passion for children literacy and inquiry-based learning as well as the practical skills to manage day-to-day library operations and connect library services meaningfully to classroom learning. Professionally managed and resourced libraries are essential to student success and this role is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the culture of learning at ISZL.

This position is offered initially on a one- to two-year contract subject to mutual agreement based on school needs and candidate availability. This position will begin in August of 2026.

Working with ISZL Students

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive library environment that encourages exploration use of library services and a lifelong love of reading.
  • Plan design and deliver instructional services and programs aligned with PYP and MYP units of inquiry fostering research skills digital fluency media literacy and ethical use of information.
  • Curate and promote diverse curriculum-aligned resources including digital collections libguides and displays that support student learning and global citizenship.
  • Organize and facilitate events workshops author visits book clubs and other programs to engage the school community.
  • Provide reference services readers advisory and guidance to students teachers and parents.
  • Model and teach about copyright open domain fair use transformative use and Creative Commons in line with academic honesty policies.
  • Monitor and evaluate library resources programs and services to ensure they meet curriculum and wellbeing goals staying current with trends and best practices.
  • Supervise the library as a community space during breaks and after school promoting inclusion and a sense of belonging.

Working with ISZL Colleagues

  • Collaborate with teachers staff and students to mentor coach and support the use of resources inquiry strategies and resource-based learning to enhance teaching and research.
  • Participate in planning meetings and co-design PYP and MYP units of inquiry promoting interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary learning.
  • Plan and deliver library programs orientations events displays and activities that enrich student and staff learning experiences.
  • Partner with curriculum leaders the educational technology team and divisional principals to integrate library resources and digital tools seamlessly into teaching and learning.
  • Develop and maintain diverse curriculum-aligned collections including libguides and lit circle materials ensuring resources are current relevant and appealing to support learning and personal interests.
  • Collaborate with other ISZL librarians to review develop and implement library policies procedures and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Support the ongoing development of library spaces as contemporary attractive and effective learning environments.

Working with ISZL Parents and External Community

  • Ensure Circulation Desk support for all community members
  • Plan for learning events (book events speakers displays)
  • Ensure the promotion of library and information services to the community.

What were looking for

  • Qualified teacher with a valid teaching credential with experience in classroom teaching.
  • Prior experience as a school librarian teacher-librarian or in a comparable role; experience working in PYP and MYP programs is highly desirable.
  • A relevant degree and professional qualifications in librarianship; post-graduate qualifications are preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with educational technology library management system and digital learning platforms.
  • Experience leading the integration of library and technology services to support teaching and learning.
  • Awareness of current trends and issues in education with the ability to contribute to institutional development and high-quality professional learning.
  • Experience transitioning libraries into contemporary learning centers or inquiry-based learning spaces is an asset.
