Job Description:
An Assistant Fitter cum Welder in a steel manufacturing company is
responsible for preparing assembling fitting and welding steel components according to technical drawings and blueprints. This role involves using hand and power tools to cut grind and shape metal followed by joining parts using welding techniques (MIG TIG or Arc) to create final structures like frames beams or columns.
Job Responsibilities
- Fitting and Assembly:Read blueprints and technical drawings to measure cut and fit metal parts together accurately before welding.
- Welding Tasks:Perform MIG TIG or ARC welding to join metal components ensuring proper penetration and structural integrity.
- Material Preparation:Use cutting grinding and shaping tools to prepare metal surfaces for welding.
- Quality Inspection:Inspect finished work to ensure it meets quality and safety standards.
- Equipment Maintenance:Perform routine maintenance on welding machines torches and tools.
- Safety Compliance:Strictly follow all safety protocols including wearing protective gear (PPE) maintaining a clean orderly workspace and ensuring safe handling of gas cylinders.
- Support Roles:Assist senior welders and fitters in complex fabrication tasks including layout and positioning of heavy materials.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Education:ITI certificate (Welder/Fitter) Diploma in Mechanical/Fabrication or equivalent Technical Certification.
- Experience:15 years of experience in welding fitting and fabrication ideally within a steel or heavy manufacturing industrial setting.
- Technical Skills:Proficiency in MIG TIG and ARC welding techniques.
- Tools Knowledge:Ability to use hand tools power tools grinders and cutting torches.
- Blueprint Reading:Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings blueprints and welding symbols.
- Physical Stamina:Capability to work in a fast-paced environment lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in structural steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing.
- Knowledge of different metals (e.g. mild steel stainless steel).
- Certification in 3G/4G welding.
