Job Summary/Scope Serves as working supervisor in the garage. Repairs trucks cars tractors and mowers. Processes paperwork and performs routine repairs and service calls as directed. Troubleshoots difficult and unusual mechanical problems. Fabricates and welds equipment and tools as needed. No direct supervisory responsibilities and limited budgetary responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Performs engine repairs on trucks tractors mowers earth moving and other motor-driven equipment
- Performs preventative maintenance on all landfill equipment including dozers scrapers compactor loader excavator motor graders trucks and other various equipment.
- Ensures equipment and vehicles are repaired correctly.
- Handles problems with repairs and maintenance work.
- Subject to on-call for emergency repairs as needed.
- Processes necessary paperwork and maintains accurate records of repairs and other Shop activity.
Other Duties and Responsibilities Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Skills in welding and operating miscellaneous power tools.
- Knowledge of mechanical engine operations and repair procedures.
- Knowledge of diesel engine and hydraulic repair.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical electrical and hydraulic systems on vehicles and equipment.
- Must be able to read and use tools such micrometers dial indicators and plastiguage. Basic computer knowledge highly desirable.
- Valid Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement required.
- Three to five years experience in related field preferred.
Material and Equipment Directly Used Uses a variety of equipment including hydraulic jacks lift devices and safety stands: also feed and stick welders grinders acetylene torches presses hydraulic and electrical testing equipment tire and tire repair equipment and other related equipment. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements Work is performed under a variety of conditions ranging from extreme cold heat windy and wet. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Also requires such physical activities as climbing stooping kneeling and crawling. Must be able to operate equipment with dexterity. Must have the ability to routinely lift objects weighing up to thirty pounds occasionally lift objects weighing as much as 75 pounds or assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds. May be subject to emergency call in. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.
Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree in related field preferred.
