Corporate Safety Manager Industrial Electrical (High-Voltage)
Location: Nanaimo BC
A well-established high-voltage electrical contractor specializing in electrical installation and transmission & distribution projects across British Columbia is seeking a Corporate Safety Manager to lead health and safety across multiple large-scale industrial construction projects. Based out of Nanaimo this is a senior leadership role responsible for strengthening safety culture supporting field operations and ensuring compliance across complex high-value infrastructure projects.
Must Haves
10 years of progressive Health & Safety leadership experience in British Columbia including senior-level responsibility across multiple projects or operations
35 years of direct experience in industrial construction ideally within high-voltage electrical utilities generation transmission & distribution or heavy civil interface work
CRSP designation (or very close to completion) with NCSO or equivalent certification
Demonstrated experience supporting large complex infrastructure projects (up to $300M) including development and oversight of Site Safety Management Plans
Strong working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and COR-certified safety management systems
Proven leadership ability with experience mentoring supervisors and project teams influencing culture and holding teams accountable in the field
Nice to Haves
Experience in high-voltage substations transmission lines generation facilities or utility-scale infrastructure projects
Exposure to asset owners and utility clients within BCs energy sector
Experience working on projects involving both electrical and significant civil scope (excavation ground disturbance heavy equipment interface foundations)
Occupational First Aid Level 3
Experience designing and delivering competency-based safety training and leadership coaching
Experience structuring or scaling a corporate safety department to meet growing project demands
Familiarity with environmental protection planning and integration of environmental considerations into OHS systems
Exposure to oil & gas or energy-adjacent sectors in addition to core industrial electrical experience
Responsibilities
Lead and actively champion a strong practical safety culture across all corporate and project operations ensuring safety is owned by leadership at every level
Provide expert guidance and mentorship to senior management project managers supervisors and field crews on effective safety leadership and accountability
Develop implement and continuously improve corporate OHS policies and systems in alignment with regulatory and client requirements
Maintain and strengthen COR certification processes internal audits and external audit readiness
Create and oversee comprehensive Site Safety Management Plans for large-scale high-voltage and civil-interface projects
Conduct formal risk assessments prior to project mobilization and throughout the project lifecycle
Ensure subcontractor safety plans job hazard analyses and safe work procedures meet corporate and regulatory standards
Lead and support incident investigations ensuring timely reporting root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative actions
Analyze injury and incident data to identify trends and drive measurable safety performance improvements
Oversee employee training records and ensure all regulatory and client-required training is current and properly documented
Develop and deliver orientations safety training sessions and leadership coaching as required
Conduct project safety audits inspections and job observations providing clear feedback and ensuring corrective actions are completed
Collaborate with project teams during planning and scheduling to proactively integrate safety into all phases of work
Provide regular reporting to senior leadership and Joint Health & Safety Committees on safety performance risks and improvement initiatives
Support injury management and return-to-work processes in coordination with site leadership and external stakeholders
Contribute to long-term strategic planning for the organizations occupational health safety and environmental programs
Travel periodically to project sites throughout British Columbia to maintain visibility provide support and ensure consistent safety standards across all operations
