Job Description:
A Fitter specializing in drawing interpretation (often called a Fabrication or Mechanical Fitter)
reads and interprets technical blueprints sketches and 3D models to accurately mark cut shape and assemble metal components. They ensure precise fitment of parts using measuring tools drills and welding equipment while adhering to safety quality and structural specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Blueprint Analysis:Review and analyze technical drawings schematics and CAD models to understand assembly specifications and dimensions.
- Fabrication & Assembly:Mark layout cut shape and assemble metal parts using tools like saws grinders drills and oxy-fuel equipment.
- Precision Fitting:Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers vernier calipers gauges) to ensure components meet strict tolerance requirements.
- Welding/Joining:Perform basic manual arc or oxy-fuel welding tapping and threading to join parts.
- Inspection & Quality Control:Inspect fabricated components for accuracy quality and conformity to technical specifications before final assembly.
- Maintenance:Perform routine maintenance on machinery and replace defective parts as indicated by technical manuals.
- Safety Compliance:Adhere strictly to occupational health and safety regulations including using safety gear and following workplace procedures.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Knowledge:Strong ability to read engineering drawings 3D models and schematics.
- Tools Proficiency:Skilled in using hand tools power tools and measuring instruments (calipers micrometer gauges).
- Technical Education:Typically requires an ITI certification or diploma in Fitter/Fabrication trades.
- Competencies:High attention to detail strong hand-eye coordination and problem-solving skills.
- Physical Stamina:Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects.
