Since 2022 Cork has been designated the Center of Excellence for Fire Detection Connected Services driven by the success and innovation of products developed by our local teams. One such flagship solution is Xaap a mobile and web-based building inspection and compliance reporting platform. Since 2018 facility managers across North America have used Xaap to test nearly 84 million devices identifying over 1 million deficiencies and improving safety standards to help protect lives.

We are now entering the next phase of our journeyexpanding our cloud platform building new connected services and investing in innovative technologies developed here in Cork.

What You Will Do

As a Software Engineering Manager you will report to the Director of Software Engineering in Cork and lead a team of 8 Software Engineers. You will provide handson technical guidance architectural leadership and people management while shaping the future of the Connected Services Cloud for the Fire Detection group.

You will work within a crossfunctional environment that includes Mobile Web Embedded Software Engineers UI/UX Engineers Product Owners and Architectsboth locally in Cork and across global remote teams.

Leadership & People Development

• Manage mentor and nurture a highperforming team of software engineers driving individual development and collective excellence.

Technical & Strategic Execution

• Own the full software lifecyclefrom initial design to continuous deployment.

• Work closely with product managers designers and senior leadership to define technical requirements and guide strategic initiatives.

• Analyze project needs and constraints using data-driven decisionmaking to steer architectural and technical direction.

• Conduct and guide code reviews across multiple services and programming languages.

• Troubleshoot complex performance scalability and reliability issues contributing code when necessary.

Agile DevOps and Engineering Excellence

• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Agile practices ensuring predictable delivery and iterative improvement.

• Advance CI/CD and DevOps culture embedding best practices in automation testing and deployment into everyday development.

• Define measure and monitor key engineering KPIs to assess team health delivery effectiveness and platform performance.

• Use quantitative insights to drive ongoing improvement in engineering processes and developer experience.

Collaboration & Distributed Teams

• Work effectively across local and remote/hybrid teams ensuring clear communication and strong alignment.

• Introduce and leverage modern collaboration tools to support distributed engineering and effective knowledge sharing.

Innovation & Emerging Technologies

• Stay informed on emerging technologiesparticularly AI/ML automation developer toolingand evaluate opportunities to integrate innovative solutions into the tech stack.

• Promote experimentation and continuous evaluation of new patterns frameworks and architectural approaches.

What we look for

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related technical field.

• 15 years of experience in software engineering including designing scalable APIs and distributed systems.

• 5 years of handson fullstack development experience.

• 3 years of managing and mentoring engineering teams in dynamic remote/hybrid environments.

• Strong proficiency in Java or another backend OO language

• Experience building containerized applications (Docker Kubernetes).

• Experience with message queues (e.g. RabbitMQ).

• Strong background with relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL MariaDB MongoDB ArangoDB Snowflake etc.).

• Experience developing microservices using REST and asynchronous messaging.

• Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS Azure GCP).

• Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and DevSecOps principles.

Leadership & Analytical Skillset

• Demonstrated ability to define track and act on engineering KPIs.

• Strong analytical skills with a proven track record of datadriven decisionmaking.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across engineering product and senior leadership.

• Ability to align technical strategy with broader business and product goals.

• Passion for continuous learning and staying current with industry trends.

• Own software design development and delivery from concept to continuous deployment.

• Lead mentor and manage a team of 8 engineers fostering excellence collaboration and accountability.

• Champion Agile development practices (Scrum/Kanban) ensuring predictable delivery continuous improvement and effective team ceremonies.

• Collaborate with both local and remote/global teams ensuring alignment communication and cohesive execution.

• Promote a QualityFirst mindset driving testautomation strategies and shifting testing left.

• Participate in and guide code reviews across multiple services and languages.

• Define technical specifications and requirements in partnership with product and engineering teams.

• Investigate and resolve complex performance and scalability challengescontributing code when appropriate.

• Lead cloud architecture and technical direction in partnership with Mobile Web Embedded Engineering Leaders and the Cloud Architect.

• Contribute to best practices across CI/CD development tools source control and observability.

• Cultivate a positive forwardthinking team culture with a strong sense of ownership and continuous learning.
