What Youll Do

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in managing the financial health and integrity of the organization. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and providing financial insights to support the organizations mission. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Assistant Controller Program Director & Managers Grant Manager and external stakeholders.
Note:This is a hybrid position with a certain percentage of time spent working remotely and a certain percentage of time spent working out of a YWCA office.

Expectations of your role:

    • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare accurate monthly quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP with an emphasis on nonprofit accounting standards.
    • Monitor and analyze financial performance providing detailed reports and insights to management and COO.
    • Monitor and track expense allocations ensuring proper allocation and reporting.

    • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets including grant-specific and programmatic budgets.
    • Analyze and monitor budget variances and collaborate with program managers to manage financial performance.

    • Grant Accounting:
    • Reconcile general ledger against external grant and donation databases. Assist Grant Manager in preparing and submitting grant-related financial reports invoices and reimbursement requests.
    • Assist with monitoring expenditure restrictions and compliance with grant terms.

    • General Accounting and Compliance:
    • Prepare complex journal entries and reconciliations and assist on other month-end close tasks as assigned.
    • Assist management with accounts payable accounts receivable and payroll functions to ensure timely and accurate processing.
    • Ensure compliance with tax regulations including preparation of Form 990 and other required filings.
    • Oversee fixed assets ensuring capital purchases are properly recorded.
    • Provide management with cash management reports and related reconciliations.
    • Prepare and record investment transactions and monthly reconciliations.

    • Internal Controls and Audits:
    • Maintain and enhance internal control processes to safeguard organizational assets.
    • Assist management with preparation for annual and grant audits.
    • Assist with developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures.
    • Propose business process improvements.
    • Provide required documentation and implement audit recommendations.
    • Team Collaboration:
    • Support and mentor staff accountants and AP staff.
    • Collaborate with other departments to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency.

    • Race and Social Justice:
    • Commitment to diversity including sensitivity to the needs of residents and staff from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
    • Participate and provide leadership in various ways for the agencys Social Justice Initiative.
    • Support the YWCAs Social Justice Initiative by understanding how racism sexism classism and other oppressions play out in institutions and systems.
    • Use the lens of social justice to review policies and procedures.
    • Shows demonstrated ability to interact with people of different cultures.

Must haves to be successful:

    • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
    • 5 years accounting experience in public accounting and industry
    • CPA certification preferred
    • Experience with technology implementation
    • Assertive customer-oriented approach
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Self-starter strong work ethic adaptable
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel PowerPoint Outlook); SharePoint knowledge preferred; Advanced Excel skills highly desired.
    • Meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
    • Excellent customer service skills for interaction with YWCA staff funders government agencies and program participants.

Hours Rate and Benefits

    • Salary: $103000 - $110000
    • Hours: 40 hours per week

    • At the time of hire employees may enroll voluntarily in the Fidelity 403b Plan
