Position Summary:
The Somerville High School Evening Door and Building Monitor is responsible for monitoring the main entrance of a school building screen visitors enforcing security policies and for maintaining a professional and courteous relationship with the staff children and families in the program while also overseeing appropriate use of the building during weekday evening hours.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
The essential functions or responsibilities listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. - Monitor the front entrance and if applicable other designated exterior doors/gates. Ensure doors are not propped open and remain locked.
- Verify identification check in visitors and if applicable issue passes following school policy.
- Assist students staff and visitors entering the school building and direct individuals to the appropriate location within the school building.
- Conduct regular checks of the school building including hallways and restrooms. Monitor security cameras if applicable.
- Report manage and/or diffuse potential safety threats or unauthorized individuals including the removal of unauthorized persons from school building.
- Redirect people from unauthorized locations in the building
- Coordinate with night custodial staff to ensure the building is fully cleared of visitors each evening.
- Maintain visitor logs and report maintenance or safety concerns.

- Must be cooperative congenial and service oriented.
- Must be courteous and able to effectively manage job responsibilities.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions to read and write to handle multiple tasks and prioritize them appropriately and to exercise good judgment.
- Ability to recognize areas of concern and propose and/or recommend appropriate solutions to the problem.
- Must possess active listening skills.
- Must possess conflict mediation skills. Maintains a high level of professionalism in all interactions with public students and school staff.

- Mobility: The ability to walk around the premises stoop bend climb stairs and kneel.
- Lifting and Carrying: Most positions require the ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 10 to 25 pounds such as packages or equipment. Some roles may rarely require lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Door monitors may work in both indoor and outdoor settings and need to be able to tolerate varying conditions of noise levels and temperatures.
