Drummond Woodsum is seeking a full-time Accountant to join our firms finance team in Portland Maine. This role supports the firms core accounting financial reporting and operational functions across the firm and its affiliated entities. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in accounting principles excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a professional services environment.
Responsibilities:
- Manage QuickBooks accounting for the firms subsidiaries (Drummond Woodsum Enterprises Opinion Focused Classic Title)
- Reconcile the firms clearing account monthly and assist with IOLTA cash audits/reconciliations
- Respond to ad hoc financial inquiries and prepare reports for subsidiary board meetings
- Support month-end close year-end tax return requests and collaborate on annual budget preparation and uploads to LMS
- Maintain fixed assets in capital management software
- Serve as Finance liaison for firm real estate closings
- Process and verify incoming/outgoing wire transfers
- Serve as backup for daily Positive Pay uploads
- Identify improvements in accounting systems and perform other finance team duties as needed
Compliance and Reporting:
- Prepare and file annual federal 1099/1096 forms
- Prepare quarterly state sales/use tax reports
- File annual state Abandoned Property and city Business Personal Property declaration reports
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field or equivalent relevant experience
- 1-3 years of accounting experience (professional services or multi-entity environment preferred)
- Strong understanding of accounting principles
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite particularly Excel
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally
- Ability to work independently manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
