Whowerelooking for:

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle WA has a fantastic opportunity for aClinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 2with theSpecimen Procurement Teamat the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake.

Are you passionate about science and ready to make a real impact on patient care As a CLT 2 you will play a vital role on the Specimen Procurement Team by coordinating workflow of the preanalytical and technical activities for the Departments send-out testing to referral labs. You will also handle problem resolution of specimens and collaborate with the Clinical Administrative Support Team and Lab Medicine Residents to ensureappropriate processing shipping and billing of undefined send-out tests. Finally you will engage in CLT 1 duties which include phlebotomy and specimen collection.

Work schedule:

  • 100%FTE

  • Tuesday-Saturday

  • Night shift

Whatyoullcontribute:

  • Prepares packages and ensures that send-out samples areforwardedto theappropriate referencelab for testingrequested.

  • Maintains an awareness of and the ability to use the resources to provide instruction on the collection and processing of specialized and targeted tests that are not performed by the UW Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology but must be sent to outside laboratories. These can be low volume tests or highly specialized and rare tests. This includes communicating specific collection instructions to the patient as needed.

  • Responsible formaintaininghigher than average awareness of the chemicals and agents needed to preserve certain tests. These chemicals may include Acetic Acid 6N HCL 6N HNO Boric Acid and others.CLT2 is responsible for aiding other staff in the preparation of these collection containers as necessary.

  • Responsible formaintainingan adequate stock of special collection materials needed for referral testing including but not limited to un-expired stock of chemicals agents and special collection kits needed for the preservation of send-out tests from SCCA UWMC and Roosevelt labs.These supplies include but are not limited to Serotonin tubes trace metal tubes Somatostatin kits TRH preservative tubes Z-Tubes for Neurotensin and Cambridge GI tubes for Neurokinin and Pancreatin.Kits includeViracorOsford and Prometheus andany othersas needed.

  • Builds andmaintainsa working relationship with the referral laboratories as needed tofacilitatethe send-out addition to the Mayo Clinic the primary reference lab that isutilizedby the UW Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology the CLT 2is responsible forsending specimens to all reference laboratories as needed and approved by the Laboratory Medicine Resident (LMR).

  • Maintains files reports and results in an organized and accessible manner.

  • Performs continual monitoring of lab reports and pending log monitors (PLM) to verify consistency of service and troubleshooting issues.

  • Maintainsthe required annual certifications needed for the shipment of hazardous materials and dry ice.

  • Trains andsupportsnew and existing staff on the performance of reference laboratory send-out activities and problem resolution.

  • Respondspromptly courteously and professionally to phone andwritteninquiries about test information results and other related information.

  • Expected to solve problems relayed from the CLT1 groupprovidersand other divisions in an efficienttimely thorough andaccuratemanner including theappropriate documentationin hc1.

  • Demonstrates the ability to solve problems toexpediteprocessing of specimens that arereceivedmislabeled unlabeled missing patient data insufficient quantity etc. and contact ordering locations as. This is to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of these procedures which are critical to patient care.

  • Provides constructive and valuable suggestions for improvement. Responsible for helping the general SPS staffmaintainsome awareness of the send-out process and continually updating procedures.

  • Serves as a resource to general PSPS staff with respect to the Lab Information System (LIS) and Clinical Information System (CIS).

  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible organized and work as a team member to provide maximum coverage and quality service in all stressful situations.

  • Promotes and contributes to the development of teamwork within PSPS and working relationships between PSPS and other lab divisions. This includesmaintainingcommunication with the following groups tofacilitatethe collection ordering shipment billing and resulting of referral send-out testing: Laboratory Medicine Resident (LMR) specimen processing staff phlebotomy staff providers and the Clinical Administrative Support Team (CAST).

  • Expected to perform the duties of the CLT1 as needed and assigned.

  • Perform other duties asor as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Whatyoullneed:

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two (2) years of chemical clinical or public health laboratory experience.

  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license certification and/or registration.

Additional DLMPrequirement:

  • Medical Assistant Phlebotomist (MA-P) certification with the Washington State Department of Health ORobtainthe MA-P certification within180 daysof start date.

Desiredqualifications:

  • Associate or bachelors degree in science

  • Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory

  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems

  • Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS)
