Heidelberg Materials is a local manufacturer and distributor of precast concrete pipes manholes and other related underground drainage products. We have a highly automated state-of-the-art facility located in NW Calgary. We are looking for a bright and interested intern to assist our engineering team in Calgary.
The Pipe division of Heidelberg Materials has offices in Calgary Edmonton Vancouver and Winnipeg. We are part of a global building materials company that includes divisions for Aggregates Cement and Ready-Mix Concrete. Here at our Calgary facility you will have the chance to engage with the construction industry from the perspective of a material supplier/manufacturer which is notably different from the experience gained in owner (consultant) or contractor positions. All safety training and personal protective equipment will be provided as needed. You will also interact with the intern students from last year (also on a 16-month internship with Heidelberg Materials) to aid in initial training and orientation. You will be able to set your own goals to ensure you have a successful internship.
Job requirements will include but are not limited to:
Using AutoCAD to create drawings for external approval and engineering internal production or general layout purposes of underground services. AutoCAD knowledge is not a requirement as training can be provided but some experience would be preferred.
Learning to read and interpret underground utility construction drawings issued by consultants and how to identify products or alternatives that we can supply.
Learning to visually identify each product we produce and understand its basic function. You will also gain some knowledge of the manufacturing techniques used for each product and the advantages or disadvantages of each system.
Providing quantity takeoffs from engineer-issued construction drawings which will form the basis of quotations to our clients.
Managing and tracking work required for new projects or projects with changes.
Working safely while on the production floor or a job site; training will be provided as necessary.
Assisting in training incoming interns in the next year to prepare them for their job duties.
Completing all required internship reports interviews and questionnaires on your own time as required to maintain your placement within the internship program.
Setting your own goals and working on special projects during slower times without constant direction from supervisors.
