SUMMARY: Plans directs coordinates and oversees all functions pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the district transportation department to include personnel equipment and facilities. Prime concern is safe efficient economical transportation of students between home and school or a regular schedule and between other destinations within or outside the districts boundaries on a special scheduling basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains current knowledge of federal and state regulations and district policy related to transportation of staff and passengers on school buses
- Establishes bus routes in the most effective manner to transport students to school and activities in the most efficient manner
- Develops and manages transportation budget including procurement Requests for Proposal purchase orders and reimbursements; verifies the accuracy and accountability for compliance of all local state and federal fiscal revenues and expenditures
- Creates and executes a comprehensive and cost-effective school bus fleet rotation plan ensuring appropriate preventive maintenance repair services and replacement in accordance with federal and state regulations and district policy
- Ensures accurate record-keeping for maintenance and repair of school bus fleet
- Reports ridership information as required by federal and state regulations and district policy
- Recruits hires and oversees training of transportation department staff maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations and district policy
- Provides continuous training for transportation department staff and bus driver trainees to maintain current requirements for appropriate Commercial Drivers License with School Bus and Passenger endorsements
- Ensures accurate record-keeping of passenger transportation and completes all State Department of Education reporting.
- Evaluates safety of road conditions during inclement weather and provides timely information to the Superintendent
- Ensures consistent practice with district policy pertaining to student behavior
- Collaborates with school administrators and parents/guardians to respond to incidents and complaints regarding school bus safety and student behavior
- Attends Individualized Educational Program (IEP) meetings to evaluate transportation requirements for students with special needs
- Arranges for appropriate transportation of passengers with special needs
- Develops and distributes safety training programs and materials to be shared with district staff families students and community members regarding safe practices at bus stops while on school buses and when transferring to/from buses
- Analyzes accidents for possible revision of safety practices and possible disciplinary action
- Assesses incidents and complaints and resolves and/or recommends resolution
- Maintains confidentiality of student and staff information
- Oversees supervision of all transportation staff
- Establishes a drug/alcohol testing program in compliance with federal & state regulations and district policy
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree
- Min 3-5 years experience as a passenger bus driver
- Ability to maintain a valid CDL with School Bus and Passenger endorsements
- Successful experience in supervising managing and leading programs people &/or budgets
- Ability to analyze compile information to develop standard operating procedures
