The Department

The Kinesiology and Health Sciences department is part of the School of Health and is located in the main campus building in Grande Prairie. Within the department we offer a Kinesiology Diploma Bachelor of Kinesiology (UT) and Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (UT).

The Role

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences is seeking one or more part-time sessional instructors to join our academic team. The successful candidates will contribute to high-quality undergraduate teaching curriculum development and student mentorship within the program. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about personal health and fitness exercise prescription and yoga instruction. This position will include in person classes during the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 semesters. Here are the potential courses:

• PA1560 Movement Foundations in Yoga and Fitness
• PE1100 Personal Health and Wellness
• PE1210 Introduction to Personal Physical Fitness
• PF1980 Leadership in Resistance Training
• PF2920 Certified Personal Trainer Exercise Prescription

This is a part-time sessional (leave replacement) position from August 15 2026 to April 30 2027. There may also be the opportunity to teach a part-time sessional course for the Spring 2027 session from approximately May 1 2027 to June 30 2027. Please note that instruction will be in-person and this is not a remote position.

The successful candidate will have a Masters in Kinesiology or related field. For some courses a combination of education certification and experience may be considered. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

• Candidates must havea Masters in a Kinesiology or related teaching in post-secondary environment.
• Candidates must be able to apply different instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with different learning styles.
• Knowledge of Northwestern Polytechnic courses and current educational technologies commonly found in classrooms (e.g. videoconferencing D2L) are desired.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Highly qualified faculty who seek to continuously improve instruction and meet the need of learners.
• Willingness to work with and support the Teaching & Learning Centre.
• Student Focused.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships across the organization.
• A high level of integrity professionalism and accountability.

In addition to the general requirements outlined above the following courses have specific additional requirements:

• PA1560

  • 500hr Yoga Teacher Training preferred 200hr Yoga Teacher Training with a minimum of 10years of yoga instruction experience may be considered

  • Yoga instruction is delivered with astrong application ofanatomy and biomechanics

• PF1980

  • Professional certification with CSEP AKA CSCS or similar is required

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience delivering client-focused resistance training instruction

• PF2920

  • CSEP-CPT Instructor Examiner preferred CSEP-CEP with a minimum 5 years of clinical exercise prescription experience may be considered
